(Daily Express)   Macron attempts to needle Trump over Olympics. Trump hates California but it looks like he'll have to fight for the Olympics in L.A. because all you have to do to get Trump to react is to make him look weak. What a maroon   ( express.co.uk) divider line

What Trump fighting for the Olympics might look like:

Trump: "Hey, go get someone to fight for getting the Olympics in LA." (to someone else, whispering) "Hey, the Olympics is that sports thing with a lot of teenage girls in revealing outfits, right?....ok, that's what I thought.  Yeah, we need that."

Later...

Trump: "I fought hard for the getting Olympics in LA!"

I do hope we get the Olympics here in LA. Not because I look forward to the crowds, the garish construction and the over the top marketing that is sure to come with it, but because it will showcase Trump's racism and fascism on the World Stage as scores people are turned away, locked up and otherwise humiliated for being from the wrong country and worshipping the wrong god

The only reason I can think that the committee said they're announcing both 2024 and 2028 is that Paris and L.A. had equally (or nearly so) compelling presentations and they couldn't choose between them. The obvious solution, and one that means they don't have to do this all over in four years, is to give it to both cities. So L.A. will get the Games, the question now is which one.

Oh, and this is for 2024 and 2028. I doubt Trump will still be President come the first one and he certainly won't be for the latter.

Yeah the thought struck me after I posted. "Hey... these next LA Olympics are probably going to be a ways off...."

It would be nice to have a large "international" event that put the spotlight on just how racist the US is though

The Olympics were already held in LA so why the need to hold it there again?

L.A. has hosted the Olympics twice, as have Lake Placid, St. Moritz, Helsinki, Paris, Athens, and a few others). London has hosted the Olympics four times. There are only so many cities that are suitable, so pretty much anywhere it's held will be "again".

2017-07-12 02:12:26 PM
They just need to get a couple cities and just cycle between them. Like the top global cities like LA, London etc who can afford this bullshiat and already have the infrastructure

2017-07-12 02:12:45 PM
Just give it to Paris, let them deal with the headaches the Olympics cause.

Yes.

Now, I've always thought olympic sports and athletes are worth every penny, but the Olympics is a crooked pile of crap robbing people who really can't afford it, will not improve their lives, and makes a handful of people wealthy. I think there should be two permanent Olympic Cities, international cities. The land and property is ceded away from the originating country. I'd be completely OK giving up L.A.

The constant building of infrastructure that ends up being underutilized and fails to live up to any of the promises to improve quality of life for locals, is bad business, and it's unethical, and should stop. I don't really care were these cities are located though.

The thing is is that the LA Olympic bid is an almost entirely "no-build" bid; IE, everything needed already exists.

Looks like it will be 2024 in Paris and 2028 in LA, mainly so there's no chance of Trump being President when the LA Olympics happens.

L.A. made money the last time around. Might have been the last city to do so. I'm not saying that means we'll do so again, just that they've not always been incredibly destructive to the local economy.

Traffic went pretty smoothly too because people planned for it. Trucking shifted to off hours, people took holidays, and businesses promoted work from home alternatives for those two weeks. Further, events were distributed from Santa Barbara to San Diego utilizing lots of existing infrastructure, college stadiums etc.. Attended a fair number of events myself.
