Yeah usually double, mine does $250,000 for natural death $500,000 for murder or accident. There are of course clauses that keep them from paying out in schemes like this.

In this case the Ex-Wife wasn't involved so she got the pay out.

The trick is to get a plan that all you need is to be declared legally dead, fake your own death, and then have your partner cash in the life insurance and you flee to a non-extradition country.

/or you know, they cash in and you're stuck in Argentina as a dead man.

Pretty much every state has laws against murderers inheriting anything from a person they murder.   There are also laws preventing cashing in on murder through books, television or movies.  What do you think happened to the riveting novel "If I did it" by O.J. Simpson?

For $100,000? If that seemed like a lot of money to her, she would have been better off kepping her husband alive, healthy, and working. A firefighter's salary might have helped pay off her debts.

This cunning plan was doomed from the start.
She conspired with 2 other people who in turn involved a 3rd.  After they failed, a 4th became part of it.
Loose lips sink ships.  Besides, where's the mention about how she was caught?

Simpson wasn't criminally convicted of murder. So that law didn't apply. It was the civil judgment, I believe, that handed the rights to his book to the Goldman family.

The daughter, Padgett, Hein and Dorty testified against Curry-Walker at trial as part of plea deal for their roles in the murder conspiracy. Hein agreed to a sentence of 18 years to life; Padgett 28 years to life; and Dorty 23 years to life. Prosecutors agreed not to seek adult charges against Curry-Walker's daughter. She will instead spend a month in a juvenile detention center.

So the daughter, who is 17, engages in a conspiracy with her boyfriend to kill the stepdad. The boyfriend gets 28 years to life and the 17 year old daughter gets a month in juvenile detention.

Damn.

I'm saying. A couple ten thousand dollars in debt? Bankruptcy that shiat away instead of doing a murder for hire scheme. And for this guy to marry her, it should have been his requirement that she declare bankruptcy BEFORE the marriage so she doesn't bring debt into the union.

http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2017/07/wife_of_slain_cleveland_firefi_1.html

Cellphone records show that she, her daughter and Hein placed several phone calls and text messages in the minutes leading up to the killing.

First investigators arrested Dorty. Then as police closed in on the conspiracy, her own daughter flipped and agreed to testify against everyone, including her mother and Padgett, with whom she had an infant at the time.

It probably didn't take police terrible long to start finding out what happened with text messages.

Yeah, was going to post similar. Double-double standard (female and young)? Possible we are not given all information. Maybe a history of some kind of abuse from parent(s) was a mitigating factor.
Or... she was the one who reported everything to police and was smart with the lawyers.

That seems extremely paltry. My old job gave me a $200,000 plan before I went freelance, and I didn't make anywhere near what a firefighter does.
