A lot of Filippino food is gross by US standards. It'll take a lot of americanizing to get people to eat it.

No adobo?

So sorry. No. Not happening. Filipino food is mostly gross, or done much better by other cuisines. They have no homerun hitters like pho, pad thai, and who needs lumpia when the Chinese or Vietnamese version is just as good.

Avocado toast? How can something that combines two awesome items be not awesome? Then again I like using hummus occasionally instead of mayo on sammiches...

It's one of those things where the trendy people keep shoving it in everyone's faces so much that we have no choice but to mock it.

I saw a package of Italian tomato sauce next to a package of Filipino tomato sauce in a grocery store and though wtf is Filipino tomato sauce.  So I checked the ingredients  Italian: Tomatoes, water, sugar.  Filipino: Tomatoes, sugar, water.  I don't recall the differences after that but thought it was funny.

i laugh when these people say "this is the next big thing" because there is no choice. we have to wear whatever is on the racks, and no matter how horrible a hair style looks men and women will sit in the chair for their personal horror show.

Maybe the amount of sugar?

There's a Jamaican restaurant in my parents' neighborhood that serves oxtail.  I tried it.  Ok, but not the kind of thing I'd hurry to try a second time.

Tail or shank are critical in making beef stock.

Yep. To the delight of my Vietnamese friends, I fearlessly ate balut, and liked it. Also good: snake soup. Tastes like fish, but has bones in a snake configuration.

Ok, so, wtf is making you crave balut so much? That shiat is nasty, yo. If you are dying for it so badly, swallow a newborn duckling. Voila. Close enough.

We will wait for englaja to answer in his own words why the craving. I'm guessing it's only for bragging rights. It is nasty visually only. The taste is good like haha chicken and egg with unexpected texture and mouthfeel.

Kinda surprised lechon hasn't been mentioned yet.
It's delicious! Just have to get past the suckling pig staring at you, whilst you peel it's crunchy flesh...

My stepmother and her sisters have been subjecting us to Filipino food for 26 years now. As others have said, there aren't too many things they do that others don't do better. I love panzit, pulvoron are pretty good, but many of their traditional foods are fatty, overly sweetened, or really bland. It's not going to happen.
