A minor popculture threadjack (and not trying to start anything political):
Stuff like this always makes me think of how ridiculous the GI Joe cartoon was growing up.

In real life: terrorist organizations rarely fight from their mountiain fortresses shaped like giant cobras. Using small cells, they disrupt infrastructure and strike wherever their enemy is weak. People die and atrocities are committed by both sides against a populace that is largely innocent. The US spends billions of dollars on special forces and standard military in order to contain the insurgents. Meanwhile, the terrorists invest heavily in the drug trade to fund their wars.

In GI Joe:
Cobra would try to clone Hitler- FROM HIS SIGNATURE. Flint and Lady J. charge a battalion of shooting cobra troopers, all in uniforms, and proceed to beat the hell out of them. Roadblock makes a sassy comment and everyone gets out of the base before it blows up, burying Hitler's signature forever.

The guy who sold this was quite right when he said most of the younger generation can't quite believe that Hitler existed. Most everyone under 30 today relates to the idea of someone like Hitler by believing "Well, he was really bad, because those people who don't think he was really bad are really uncool" and that's it. They don't think that he was a complete madman or realize that people just as mad as him exist today. Probably why so many people think Hussein woulda been just fine had we let him be.

Am I the only one here who thinks this is a form of Hitler worship? If his damn signature is worth so much of our money, is it any wonder there are still skin-heads and Neo-Nazis trying to emulate the motherfarker?

Although I can't blame Mr. Duff for stealing/selling it. If I were in his shoes, and I knew I could get a young forture for it, I'd be hard pressed to give it to a museum instead of selling it. I can't explain the buyer, I'm not sure I'd like to meet that guy in a dark New Zealand alley.

I am selling this thank you on ebay. Of course, I have not made an effort to verify its authenticity yet, but it is probably legit.

Dear Misters Chirac, Putin and Koffi-Anan

Thanks for letting me sell my oil illicitly and keep the profits. We've certainly pulled the wool over the world's eyes.

I was raised a Jew. We heard about Hitler plenty of times, if only to take up the Lutheran slack.

The danger of people like Hitler is that he wasn't a complete madman, in most areas. He build the autobahns and comissioned Ferdinand Porsche to build a car the common man could afford, a "people car" which became Volkswagen. Needless to say, this was very good for Germany's economy. In many things he was not only sane but highly intelligent. If he was a complete lunatic, he never would have risen to power.

Of course, he was insane when it came to his beliefs about the Aryan racial superiority and his desire to murder innocent civillians (mostly Jews as we know.)

He suffered from delusions, perhaps the worst one being his belief that Jewish people are evil and are responsible for the world's ills. Strange though it may seem, delusional people who appear sane can be very convincing when they try to convince others of their delusions.

Add to this the fact that people tend to be extremely passionate about, even love a strong leader, whether good or evil. Millions of Russians cried when Stalin died.

2004-05-21 11:26:52 AM
Hitler called upon pre-existing hatred of the jews, stirred up my Martin Luther's "Against the Jews" which was a blueprint for the holocaust...

sorry if reality offends you theists....
