No.

But that's just because you'd be doing it to be a troll.  If that was actually how you identified, then yes.

This won't happen, but I assume you know that and are just being snarky.

I can't RTFA due to the paywall (yes, I know the workarounds, and I can't use them), but assuming that this may be another Gender: X on your ID story, I wonder if the TSA will accept them for flight?

Some law was passed requiring a bunch of things for IDs to be valid for flight.  I wonder if this will cause a conflict?

Nonbinary is a serious medical condition that is treated with gender neutral IDs, and preferred pronouns.

I can't speak for other non-binary people, but the best way I can describe my frustration is a bit like this: have you ever had someone assume you're from somewhere other than where you're actually from? Like, say you're in Europe or America, and everyone assumes you're from Australia instead of New Zealand? It gets pretty annoying after a while, right? Or pretend that you're a cat, and everyone calls you a dog. Now imagine that happening every. Bloody. Day.

That's only a fraction of what it's like to be misgendered.

It's taken a while to build up the courage, but these days I speak up when I'm misgendered a lot more than I used to, even when I'm by myself. I suppose one reason why it's taken so long is the fear of literally getting beaten up. Believe me: far worse sometimes happens to non-binary folks in some of the places I've been.

But I do feel I'm getting more confident. Just the other day, I was in a cab by myself, and the driver began the conversation with "how are you, sir?"

"Please don't call me sir," I said.

"Ok, sir," he replied.

"I'd really prefer you didn't call me sir," I said again. "Just call me Ben, please."

That was the last time I was called "sir" that day.

Trans folks I can understand. But bushy hipster beards who don't want to be called "he" or "sir", and wild haired persons with big earrings and dressing in skimpy tops don't want to be called "she" or "her" and get angry when people use such terms, well, they can fark off.

mrlewish: So... since we can all identify as we wish, can I be a female born into a male body that identifies as a masculine lesbian... and be taken seriously?

No.

I mean, the government is obligated to allow you to do the actual legal things that could possibly stem from that, e.g. marrying a woman, but no one is obligated to react to your identity bullshiat, intended seriously or not, in any particular way.

There's a reason the IDs are being shifted to basically allow "I decline to answer the question" and not to let you fill in your own free-association whatever.  It's an acknowledgement that it's your own deal and the government has no particular interest in it one way or the other, not that the government is going to actively support you in some way based on your gender identity.

Also, frankly most people don't even take people who are adamantly straight particularly seriously, note how the first reaction of almost literally everyone to those anti-gay preachers is to automatically assume that they're closeted, gay, and probably illegally screwing a minor just to fark with them for being coonts.  So, yeah, no one is obligated to respond positively or even neutrally if you insist on telling them you're gay, secretly a dolphin, have a girlfriend but she's in Canada, whatever... beyond providing equal service and letting you got to the restroom instead of pissing yourself on the shop floor.

Well, she is right in that trans means you are transitioning from one to another, so nonbinary shouldn't be trans because they are just some weird wibbly-wobbly gender-bender stuff. But, whatever. Call yourself a dim/dir, just fark off, Frodo.

Exactly. I really don't care who or what you want to rub your pleasure bits against as long as it's all adults consenting, nor do I care where you want to pee as long as you wash your hands, but the level of absurdity seems to be constantly reaching new lows with each successive new sex/gender construct, demand, or identity that nobody knew existed until 5 minutes ago. It's as if the point isn't equality anymore, but to see how much absurdity, guilt and humiliation can be inflicted on "cisgender" society.

My first-born prefers 'they /them' as a pronoun.  This has come up in the couple of years.   As someone else stated, it isn't anything to do with 'trans'.
Confusing for me as a parent? Yup.
Do I have to actually LIVE it?  Nope, that's my child's burden to carry.
Do I always use her their preference? Nope.
Is anyone else's life adversely affected by what my child is doing?  Not that I'm aware of.

Or....
they DID exist but people affected were afraid of getting the shiate beat out of them by violent red-necks and only now is society at a point where people are feeling free and safe enough to talk about it openly.
