(Wimp)   Let's go back to 2009 when Mariners broadcaster Mike Blowers makes the greatest MLB prediction of all time. Is he a time traveler, a psychic, or just really lucky?   ( wimp.com) divider line

Mediocre story bro:

Tuiasosopo went to my high school.

Meh. Calling a fastball on 3-1 isn't exactly a super power.

I really, really hate it when they put that idiot Buhner in the booth.

abhorrent1: Meh. Calling a fastball on 3-1 isn't exactly a super power.

Except that the broadcaster predicted it when the count was 1-0. In other words, he predicted the count would go to 3-1, then the pitcher would throw a fastball, then Tuiasosopo would go yard on it. And that he'd hit the second deck with it.

If this was a prediction the broadcaster made when the count was already 3-1, I might agree with you. But it's pretty impressive that he did it when the count was just at 1-0.

What's with all the Buhner hate?

/He's still my all-time favorite player.

Actually, from reading the article below the video, it was a pre-game prediction. Thus why he said "In his 2nd at bat". The video could/should have been a bit more clear about that.

Top 5th, no out, Tui batting. Broadcasters do a segment called "Picks to Click" where one predicts which player will have a good day today. Mike Blowers says his pick is Tui -- who is batting and is currently at a 1-0 count. Blowers says he's been swinging the bat well and that "I expect him to hit his first big-league home run today. He's going to get a good count, he's going to get a fastball, and he's going to hit it out of the park. I expect into the second deck. On a 3-1 count." They kick that around a bit and excitement builds as the count approaches 3-1. The 3-1 pitch comes, it's a fastball, and Tui knocks it out of the park, missing the second deck by inches. Dave Niehuas, the other announcer, goes nuts.

My impression is that the beginning of this segment is actually audio from a pregame show that the editors of this clip spliced into the video.  You can hear Blowers say it will be Tui's 2nd AB when he hits the homer.  Right before the video goes to the 2-1 pitch, you can hear a slight pause, then the video background take on a different tone, and then Niehaus takes over the play-by-play.  I'm pretty sure the video was edited specifically so that Niehaus's excitement comes after ball 3 is called.
