Rawhead Rex: I'm all for this shiat...love a machete and all...
But DAMN, that was risky...he was staring down the business end of a 12 gauge shotgun and JUST KEPT COMING.
We're talking ALL BALLS, NO BRAINS...if dude had wanted to end him, machete dude would've eaten point blank lead from that shotgun.
He's seriously lucky those home invaders were pussies.
What the homeowner did would have gotten you killed 9 time out of ten...
Not saying sit back and be violated, but damn he's lucky he didn't get shot. Badly.

Badly?  Hell I'm pretty sure a shotgun from that range woulda done a FINE job, not bad at all.  As in "Dude where's a fifth of my torso??"  Not even sure it'd matter what he had loaded, even birdshot is pretty much one big lethal mass at seriously short range.  I'm not sure that people behind him might not have to worry some if it was seriously close.
Kinda gotta agree, Rex - if you're already inside someone's effective range a machete will make a horrible, horrible mess out of you quite quickly.  Trying to just get inside that range while a guy with a shotgun knows you're coming and has time to fire?  Umm I'd seriously suggest prayer or something - because if he has any desire to pull the trigger you're gonna get shot, possibly repeatedly.  Not that you'd really need more than one shot, but hey.  And a shotgun at those kind of ranges... while video games exaggerate the area effects it'd still be pretty hard to miss.

If the shotgun was a regular full length hunting weapon vs. a short defense/police model it isn't too hard to imagine how the gun wielder might have been disarmed.  (begin harp music and wavy let-you-know-its-imagination-time screen)  When the barrel of the long gun comes through the door it can be grabbed by the machete holder.  Once that happens, given the mechanical advantage of holding the stick at the far end vs. the closer hand-hold position the shooter is engaged in, the weapons muzzle is going to be held off-target fairly easily with one hand.  Then the machete holder will make it clear with a couple demonstration hacks he is about to take the gun-holder's hands or head off...and the gun gets surrendered.  (end harp music)

All fine and well, but not what happened in the video.

I keep a very large "assault machete" next to my side of the bed for situations such as this. Few things are as terrifying as a "crazed" man waving a machete.

Used to keep a loaded .38 revolver on my headboard, but we adopted our 8 year old niece and that had to go away.

I honestly think the machete is almost as effective.

You're not the first person to think that.

I got a glancing shot on the leg from a .22lr. Basically cut a tiny chunk out, which i bandaged and duct taped up, left a tiny lead tattoo. said I fell on my bike. That is about as good as you can get.

generally, getting shot with a 9mm would be far more preferable to a shotgun and point blank range

idrow: At least they arrest them in FL.  My husband caught two guys trying to break into our house and held them there with an axe until the cops got there.  Police stations was 3 blocks away and it took them 20 minutes to get there.  Then they tried to talk him out of pressing charges because they'd be out soon anyway (they just didn't want to do the paperwork).  Gotta love NJ.

Sounds like the best strategy would have been to use the axe, bury them in back, and never call the cops.

Homeowner's got some solid steel balls. Went after them with a deck chair, then what looked like a 2x4, then went into the back and grabbed a machete. Wasn't intimidated by the shotgun at all.

If I lived anywhere close, I'd happily buy the homeowner a beer or two.
