It just seems like it would make it harder to get blind drunk. You'd keep drinking and drinking and your eyesight would just keep getting better and better.

Hey it's Australia. If it doesn't kill you we'll turn it into booze.
And if it could possibly kill you, then we'll give it a damn good try to turn it into booze.

Meh, carrot juice has fermentable sugars. Give it a go. Not vodak, though. Maybe a distilled carrot wine, aged in french oak barriques.

Who am I kidding? We've been fermenting stuff for millenia, and we've already figured out which grains or fruit work best. If fermented, distilled carrot  was a good drink, it'd already have a noble history.

It actually sounds like something I could totally pitch to the enviro-concern lot that I grow with.

I mean, for a community that keeps on telling me they're all broke as f*ck, I could see this move into capitalism not jarring too bad with their 'ethos'.

/ja, food for thought!

Fark 'em. Stick to barley and grapes. Beer, whiskey, and wine. What could go wrong?

1. place ethanol in a vat
2. squirt in some artificial flavor
3. mix well
4. dispense into unusual looking bottle with a hip label
5. call it vodka
6. profit

VODAK.

Being a good alcoholic, Vodka is my spirit of choice. Fark all this artisan stuff and get a bottle of Titos.   Unless of course you are female. You can drink all the sorbet flavored Smirnoff you like. Vodka tastes  like shiat  no matter how you make it, the only difference is the varying degrees of shiattyness.  anyone who tells you otherwise is a liar
/end rant
/ not sure why I care so much, drink whatever you want

You guys are looking at this from the wrong end. It might not make the best vodka on earth, but it's vodka after all and if you can drink that shiat it might as well come from carrots.

More important is the fact that they're finding something to do with the rejects they can't send to market, instead of throwing them away. That's smart and innovative. Less waste is good business for farmers, and generally good for the planet.

Personally, I like the fact that the answer to "what are we going to do with this leftover stuff?" so often is "turn it into booze".

It's true that "everything wants to be beer". Starting a new batch of Belgian style tripel this week. Should be good in a few months.

Dude, the second it becomes legal, I am promoting my 'Budka' range of cannabis infused brännvin.

I hadn't considered carrots as a sugar source, tbh, but it's likely they will feature in my next 'mash' from my wine production.

You can make vodka from anything.  Pumpkins, grapes, carrots or potatoes.  It is pure alcohol.  They distil it 5 times and add water to it.  I don't what it is made from has any bearing on the taste.

In fact, vodka isn't supposed to have any taste of its own.

The chosen ingredient is supposed to affect mouthfeel, which people equate with smoothness.  But yeah, other than the occasional glycerin, it's ethanol and water.

Me and a buddy distill 160 proof 'shine using nothing more than sugar, yeast, and a little cornmeal for a slight corn flavor. If you cut it with water it diminishes the head to toe radiating warmth effect of drinking a shot. Its a very controllable and clean buzz. Favorite flavoring is a couple cinnamon sticks in a pint jar of it, let sit a week. Treat it with respect and it won't give you a hangover.
An old gentleman we gave a sample to said "boy, either you made that yourself or know the fella that did"...

You can ferment just about anything into some sort of booze.  My sister once made some dandelion wine, and it was almost like a tequila and could take the top off your head if you finished off the whole bottle.

/secret was just use only the yellow parts.

Carrot vodka is a thought.

I was wondering if rum goes with carrot cake. Probably not. But carrot vodka would be worth a try.

I had carrot sorbet once on a Swiss Air flight. First Class. First class meal from the champagne to the coffee.

On the same trip my flight from Montreal was held up while the replaced an engine and all I got was a lousy (and tiny) bag of peanuts. Sort of evened things out, sadly.
