Shoulda gone through the self-checkout, kid.

Good on him for being responsible where it really matters, at least...

staff members at the Target located at 5570 Roswell Road in Sandy Springs reported a male juvenile took a box of condoms into the bathroom and came out without them. As he left the bathroom, the officer approached and asked about the condoms. The juvenile said he flushed them down the toilet, then said he tossed them in the trash. Right about then, the condoms fell out of his pants. Following the awkward silence, the kid apologized and was detained while cops found a family member to pick him up.

This is pretty much every young male's nightmare.

Pro tip: Amazon sells condoms for less. It also comes in an anonymous box. Of course, the "male juvenile" maybe doesn't have a credit card.

Are we still living in an age where condoms need to come in discreet packaging? Are people getting pregnant because they're too embarassed to buy them?

Not that lobg ago purchased  them a few times with my wife at my side, before we both got fixed.  Got some really nasty looks, rude as hell customer service,  and one grocery store wrapped them in a black bag.  We looked  young and all, but not that farking young.  Not that that should have made any difference. This is the second time in three months a male juvenile has been arrested for shoplifting after stealing condoms at this Target location.

Well at least they are trying to be responsible and not get girls pregnant.
If we weren't such a Puritan country they could get them for free at school.

The main advantage of Amazon condoms is that you're not spending five bucks for three condoms at the drug store. Nor are you using free condoms that may be old. Condoms last about five years, and when I was in college they would hand out free ones that had about a year left.

The side benefit is that you're not going to end up like this kid, stealing condoms because they're too expensive or embarrassing. RTFA: he was too embarrassed to admit he was stealing them; he claimed he flushed them. That's some seriously cornered thinking.

I've never been treated different in the slightest when buying condoms, or anything for that matter, from a drug store. Do you live in one of those red states where you need a prescription or something?

Simple rule: if you feel too embarrassed to buy condoms then you aren't ready to have sex.

My mom worked retail pharmacy. They had a policy that if they saw a young person, I think under 25 stealing condoms they just let them go without saying anything and marked it down for inventory reasons. She told me stories of middle aged women and men telling young people looking at the condoms to be ashamed of themselves. This was early to mid 90s in Fargo ND.

His point went right over your head.

In much of our country there's an active hostility to the very organizations that hand out free condoms to teens, or the general notion that they should be any easier to give away to those who need them.

So instead we get more dumbshiat, broke teens shoplifting them, or just having unprotected sex.... which then leads to more teen pregnancy, and more dumbshiat, broke teens shoplifting condoms.

We were living in Charleston SC and the missus happened to miss her period right when we ran out of condoms.  So went to the local drug store and got an EPT kit, a fresh box of condoms and a Kit Kat bar. Got quite the look from the checkout woman.  Must have been the candy bar.

You know how condoms are 99% effective?  That 1% probability caught up with us. Best "accident" we ever had - the boy turns 22 next month.

I don't think I'd be interested in the kind of woman to whom a "politically incorrect" condom isn't a deal-breaker. She sounds not-classy in the bad way.

Mom and pop pharmacy located in the mall. Lots of young ones going in and out. Sometimes they would pocket them and hang around until there was no line then pay for them. I think a couple times they would give cash, say keep the change, pocket the condoms and walk out.

No, it didn't.   If your broke ass is too poor to buy condoms, or you are too embarrassed to walk up to the counter and actually pay for them, you probably aren't mature enough to be having sex in the first place.

I applaud the programs that supply them for free, but I am not going to assume the dumbshiat in this article was unable to afford them.

It is sad how little information and support kids get when it comes to sex.  Mr. H and I are already planning on raising Mini Houlihan in such a way where Mini H will hopefully not feel so embarassed or shameful about sex, body parts, etc.  Couple that with decent sex education, which at least here in the schools isn't bad but we'll be supplementing at home, and hope that it helps him to make smart choices.  We'll probably give him a box of condoms when he gets in to his teenage years, not because we're encouraging him to have sex, but so that he has them should he decide he's ready.

TFA doesn't give much info about the situation, and we can argue that stealing is bad, and if he can't afford condoms he should't be having sex (which I agree with).  If the kid was going to have sex anyway, and his parents and school didn't educate him about where to find free condoms (health department, Planned Parenthood, even some doctors' offices, etc.), I can't fault him for trying to be proactive about not procreating.   I just hope his family doesn't shame him about the sex.  Stealing?  Of course he should be punished.  Sex?  How about an honest and informative conversation.
