In other news out of the Education Department, the equals sign (=); the addition sign (+); and the multiplication sign (x) have all been hereforth replaced with the division sign (R).

But investigating discrimination, rape, and the underprivileged is sohard. Let's just go out for ice cream instead. Go White Men!

2017-06-18 03:41:27 AM
Betsy DeVos, in honor of Father's Day, met with several evangelical groups along with more mainstream educational organizations to discuss the future of public education.  Keep in mind, that her department is set to funnel millions of dollars previously earmarked for public education to private religious schools. The National Parent Teacher Association was so appalled, they refused to attend.

Among those she spoke to are the virulently anti-LGBT groups, Family Research Council (who endorse so-called "gay conversion therapy" even for children) and the equally hateful and homophobic Focus on the Family (whose leader endorsed shooting any transgender person caught in the "wrong bathroom and who believe that creationism and Christian prayer be instituted in all public schools).  Both are listed as extremist hate groups by Human Rights Watch, the SPLC and many other human rights organizations.

She's a hateful, bigoted Christian religious zealot, and she's brought her bullshiat with her to the Department of Education.

That approach sent complaints soaring, and the civil rights office found itself understaffed and struggling to meet the department's stated goal of closing cases within 180 days.

typical republican response.  "lots to be done and not enough people to do it? lets cut back rather than hire more people."

Brownback absolutely destroyed mental healthcare in Kansas with the exact same approach. suicidal people and others in desperate need of a facility can literally spend DAYS in an ER with either hourly checks by the police or a cop literally standing guard, until a bed in a facility opens up.

You know, I used to be lukewarm on LGBT issues but these religious nuts won't be content until they force everyone to choose a side. It's almost like they aren't content to worship behind closed doors, they feel the need to take their bullshiat out into public, always rubbing it in your face and shoving their agenda down your throat.

I wonder if there's a role model they could look to, one they would respect and follow his example, someone who spent his time with beggars and prostitutes and accepted everyone as an equal. A person like that could really be a beacon of tolerance.

I am siding with the rainbow community. Mostly because when I started paying attention and really understood how big an issue suicide is among Gays and trans, it broke my heart to hear how bullying really has claimed lives.

But Mr. Shibley said the practice of systematic reviews was a significant burden, especially on colleges and universities, which sometimes had to review years of previous sexual assault complaints, and remedy anything they were found to have mishandled.

"That was quite alarming from a double jeopardy and civil liberties perspective," Mr. Shibley said

I'm gay and married.  My husband, at 14, was forced to attend a youth gay conversion camp sponsored by the FRC in Louisiana. I've been the victim of a brutal "gay bashing" that resulted in a week in the hospital and a half dozen surgeries to repair the damage to my face.  and in the last five or so months, I've watched the rights of LGBT people being quickly eroded under Trump.  I am not trolling.

DeVos is the Secretary of Education.  She had no cause to meet with either the FRC or FotF.

Sean VasDeferens: Obama's directive spent many millions of dollars looking for non-existant problems.  On the bright sided, it resulted in the enrichment of a dozen or so people in the DC area.

/Keep draining that swamp!

His administration found a lot of serious problems.  My big issue is that universities brought in private law firms to handle rape cases on campus instead of involving the police and courts.  The result was (as far as I know), a slap on the wrist for serial rapists who could walk away and harm the greater public instead of going to prison.  The other issue as mentioned in the article is lack of due process for both sides.
On top of that, we are talking about young adults where alcohol, drugs, and poor judgement often lead to bad things.

Although with DeVos these actions are designed to pave the way for discrimination against minorities, non-xtians, and disabled kids for admission to charter and religious schools.

This isn't a Republican thing.  It's an American thing.  Especially in business.  I have seen this trend be unofficially codified in the philosophy of every company I have worked for over the last 20 years.  People are expendable even when there is a need/demand for more.

Companies are sociopathic.  Most Republicans (and some Democrats) are business people. Draw your own conclusions.

Seeing as how they're being eroded so quickly and whatnot, it'd make sense that you'd be able to point out at least a few.
