Precious Roy's Horse Dividers: Dammit. Was hoping for good news

Me too, although I was prepared for the worst.

Fair winds and following seas, shipmates.

Wanted for questioning.

2017-06-17 11:27:36 PM
I had a feeling that some of the missing crew might have been in the flooded compartments because I didn't think many crewmembers would be out on deck in areas where they would have been likely to be thrown overboard at the time of the collision.  But I'm no sailor.

Sad news.

2017-06-17 11:41:25 PM
I'm sure the Secretary of the Navy will demand a full accounting of the event.

I grieve for their loss with their shipmates, friends and families.

Just a question.... did the current POTUS ever make any public statement before or now about this?

Damn...that's a nightmarish way to die.  I hope the investigations can determine what went wrong so future potential accidents can be prevented.

His first words will be demanding that the Philippines government pay for the damage to our ship.

Went out with an old friend who is having flashbacks over this.  He was on the Evans when it was split in two after being run over by an Aussie carrier during Vietnam. It was a...somber...dinner.

I've an acquaintance who was on the Newport News off of Vietnam when the turret blew up.  His account of the night after the explosion hearing water flooding into adjacent compartments and feeling the ship listing is nightmare fuel.

First thing he did when he woke up this morning.  However most of the media focused much time on he tweet saying Camp David was "rustic"

The article says Trump sent out a tweet saying thoughts and prayers. Goddammit I hate this mother farker. You're the commander in chief. You're supposed to have wise and comforting words to memorialize their sacrifice and the best you can manage is a farking "thoughts and prayers" tweet?

I have to go cry now.

Terrible news. Though I suppose a mite better than them being lost at sea.

He didn't send that.  That was an overzealous staffer.

You're expecting a lot from a man who displays signs of extreme narcissism and sociopathic tendencies.

Well he also changed his Facebook profile to have Navy flag overlay.

What else can one person do?

Terrible outcome.  RIP.  Sympathies to their families.

I hoped for a different outcome, but there's no place to be missing for days on a ship that size unless it's someplace they can't get because of flooding containment.

I'm curious to find out how a US Navy Ship gets rammed by commercial traffic.

Fawk.  I knew that was the answer, but my heart breaks for the families of those lost.

My jokingly titled "Father in Sin"(since his daughter and I have been together for years now, but not married) was a torpedoman on the USS Tautog as a young man when it got a little too close to the Soviet boat it was tailing...I was watching the NBC nightly news with him when this story first broke and he turned white.
Poor bastards; can't thank their families enough.

Military personnel, be them active duty or retired - are entirely expendable to him, throwaway people. The only time he gives a single fark about us is when he needs a photo op* or a chance to suck up to his lowest-common-denominator base.  FFS, I still want to know where the majority of the money he raised for veterans' charities during his campaign actually went.

He should have done more than a tweet about these lost Sailors, as well as the three Air Assault soldiers killed in Afghanistan.  A short, even pre-recorded statement would have been appreciated by the families of the dead at the very least.

Even you can't be this much of an asshole to defend a stupid, meaningless tweet by POTUS when it comes to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country?

*and Lordy, do we hate that moto bullshiat.

First place to look is the berth certificates, they must have been forged.

In a way that ends a captains career, no doubt.  Possibly a few others on the bridge crew as well.

Here's another good question:  How does an entire destroyer squadron ram California?

"To those of you who mourn the loss of a loved one today, my heart goes out to you. I love my daughters more than anything in the world, and I cannot imagine losing them. I can't imagine losing a sister or brother or parent at war. The grief so many of you carry in your hearts is a grief I cannot fully know.
This day is about you, and the fallen heroes that you loved. And it's a day that has meaning for all Americans, including me. It's one of my highest honors, it is my most solemn responsibility as President, to serve as Commander-in-Chief of one of the finest fighting forces the world has ever known. (Applause.) And it's a responsibility that carries a special weight on this day; that carries a special weight each time I meet with our Gold Star families and I see the pride in their eyes, but also the tears of pain that will never fully go away; each time I sit down at my desk and sign a condolence letter to the family of the fallen.
Sometimes a family will write me back and tell me about their daughter or son that they've lost, or a friend will write me a letter about what their battle buddy meant to them. I received one such letter from an army veteran named Paul Tarbox after I visited Arlington a couple of years ago. Paul saw a photograph of me walking through Section 60, where the heroes who fell in Iraq and Afghanistan lay, by a headstone marking the final resting place of Staff Sergeant Joe Phaneuf.
Joe, he told me, was a friend of his, one of the best men he'd ever known, the kind of guy who could have the entire barracks in laughter, who was always there to lend a hand, from being a volunteer coach to helping build a playground. It was a moving letter, and Paul closed it with a few words about the hallowed cemetery where we are gathered here today.
He wrote, 'The venerable warriors that slumber there knew full well the risks that are associated with military service, and felt pride in defending our democracy. The true lesson of Arlington,' he continued, 'is that each headstone is that of a patriot. Each headstone shares a story. Thank you for letting me share with you [the story] about my friend Joe.'
Staff Sergeant Joe Phaneuf was a patriot, like all the venerable warriors who lay here, and across this country, and around the globe. Each of them adds honor to what it means to be a soldier, sailor, airman, Marine, and Coast Guardsman. Each is a link in an unbroken chain that stretches back to the earliest days of our Republic - and on this day, we memorialize them all"

That's Barack Obama, understanding the gravity of military loss. Go back under your bridge.

Yeah, this goes from "retiring in disgrace" to "facing court martial".

My understanding is that the ship is or was without power/propulsion after the collision. Why is this so? It's a warship and is supposed to be able to sustain damage and continue to function. Serious.

...And if he had those wise and comforting words, you'd be in here biatching how he crafted the words for political gamesmanship, or distraction, or some such.

With such a somber and tragic event, I'm glad the short bus brigade on Fark has found a way to try and score political points for their team.
