This really should be a bigger story in the news/media, this is a big farking deal. Putin ordered and carried out a hostile act on the pillars of American democracy, designed to sway a Presidential election and degrade faith in the core values of the nation. This is not in dispute, it is 100% agreed upon by every American intelligence and defense agency. Regardless of who is in the big chair, or what colour their tie is, Putin and Russia should be international pariahs right now.

Instead we have...this.

This is the biggest story of this whole scandal. Even if we accept the most insane Trumper's attitude of "The Russians did us a favor! Putin was doing God's work!" What about the next election when it's the Chinese or the North Koreans, or hell even Britain or France? Point is, investigating how it happened and shoring up our collective cyber security should be a major priority of any administration at this stage. Instead Trump is doing everything in his power to ignore the big glowing "Kick Me" sign on our country's back.

Either he's deeply compromised or he's grossly incompetent, and either option should be an impeachable offense.

Even disregarding the Orange Menace, others are implicit as well-

"At the start of each new U.S. Congress, in January of every odd-numbered year, newly elected or re-elected Members of Congress - the entire House of Representatives and one-third of the Senate - must recite an oath:
I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.
This oath is also taken by the Vice President, members of the Cabinet, federal judges and all other civil and military officers and federal employees other than the President."

It's astonishing to me how every single Republican I know has just decided to up an bury their head in the sand on this issue. And they bury their heads so deep, that it's an uphill battle getting them to admit through gritted teeth that, something every intelligence agency has said unequivocally exists, in fact exists.

It's also astonishing how every single one of them automatically go on the defensive about Trump whenever it's brought up. On the surface, Russia interfering with our election isn't about Trump. . . at least, not until you start to do a little bit of digging, it isn't. But hey, to be fair, no collusion has been officially proven yet. . . But regardless, their first thought should be, "how do we stop this from happening again," and not, "how do we get the stink off of our guy?"

I agree
Maybe we should stop devoting 100% of every news cycle to talking about how any day now we'll find the smoking gun of collusion and start talking about what we know is true and have actual evidence of.
When you have congresspeople going around saying the collusion issue is way worse than watergate, but the same person is also saying that they have zero evidence that any of it even happened... something doesn't click.
Maybe they should wait until they know what questions to ask before they start pulling everybody up for questioning.
Trump's administration has been 100% in defensive mode because of constant allegations and false reports. Comey said that pretty much everything the media has published is false.  how the fark does that even happen? why aren't there fact checkers sinking these stories before they go to press?
So yeah, trump's people haven't really even gotten around to prosecuting the people they promised they'd prosecute... so good luck getting them to handle a big international incident.
I'd be tickled to see all the weaksauce attacks cut back in favor of getting ONE coordinated media/political attack on him that actually has merit. Question the investigators directly and make them agree to report news (like comey had to do about hillary), then go do some real work. anything else is a waste of time and the money that we the people pay them to get stuff done.

Oh yeah, and not too long ago I was talking to a diplomat I know from an eastern European country. His gig here in DC was done, and he was about to go home and be replaced by one of his colleagues.

He didn't want to really say much at first, as he's a diplomat after all, but once I had made my own feelings clear that I was sad to see him go, but the timing wasn't the worst for him considering our political turmoil, he confided in me one not quite as diplomatic thing. Paraphrasing as close to the original as I can, he said, "You know.... For years we warn your country the Russians do these things. They do it to us, our neighbors, all over the world making trouble and destabilizing countries. Funding radicals, spreading misinformation, hacking... Always trying to cause problems, hurt people. I think many people here in the US just didn't think it could ever happen to you. Now it has, and it's a very bad thing. I really hope your people can beat this, I really, really do. But it works, they're going to keep trying."

It was?  I thought the US was propping up a heavily right-wing Shah and the Iranian revolution was less right-wing.

Typically, right-wing revolutions happen in back door deals and with strokes of the pen, while left-wing happens with bloodshed.  Sometimes at the same time, like the Russian revolution in 1917:  the dirty work was done by left-wingers, while right-wingers sleazy-slid themselves into power after all was said and done.

I am wondering if they didn't play it right. It seems to me that if their goal was to destroy the belief in the system, Russia would have made it appear as though they interfered to get Clinton elected. trumpee would have sued and courts would have exposed it, and then Americans would have been even less inclined to vote....handing more control to republicans over time.

Instead they seemed to have strengthened the resolve of democrats/liberals. Although it is still early, and there is a good chance people wander back to their complacency and don't vote.

A big problem is that they can turn around and demonstrate we've done the same many times.  But, that's not on the news is it?

In fact, we've done it dozens of times since world war II by stepping in militarily, training, funding, and/or providing arms.
