No, you asshole, the Orlando shooting wasn't just an act of terrorism, it specifically targeted LGBT people.

Stop trying to make this about the shooter, and focus on the victims, and the motivations for the attack, you farking tool.

And boo-hoo if rainbow and pride flags are upsetting to Christians who are afraid to come to Orlando because their bible-humping fee-fees might get hurt.  But you are right about one thing; let the skinned-kneed jesus freaks spend their carefully hoarded pennies at the failing Ark Encounter. Better they go there, anyway; at least they'll be safe from the Evil Gay Agenda.

At the risk of sounding arrogant, I don't think the people of Orlando want your damned business anyway.

Universal Studios' new water park is showing record attendance. They had to close their gates in the morning because of capacity. That would have more to do with Disney's slightly declining attendance more than the media's horse-beating Pulse thing.

docpeteyJ: No, you asshole, the Orlando shooting wasn't just an act of terrorism, it specifically targeted LGBT people.

Isn't the textbook definition of terrorism 'the use or threat of violence against a targeted group in pursuit of political goals'?  Seems as if that is exactly what this dude did against the LGBT community.

As for evangelical Christians boycotting Disney, I don't see how this is breaking news.  Looking back as far as the early 1990s, I can't remember a time when some evangelical organization wasn't actively boycotting Disney.  Look at the eight years that Southern Baptists boycotted Disney as an example.

My impression was that Disney doesn't care anymore.  To Disney, the evangelical community has become an erratic, unreliable customer base.  They're also increasingly not the economic group that Disney is interested in.  As Disney continues to remake their parks into a playland for the affluent, the groups most likely to boycott are becoming the groups most likely to be priced out.

It doesn't help that they've been pushing up ticket prices to a record high of 124 now....and 'preferred' parking at 40 dollars a day that's priced out of range for most of the local's w/o annual passes.
Disney has been pushing ticket prices up to find the breaking point, and I think they just found it.

And Universal has much more appeal to the younger adults with disposable income and no families.

Very true.  I think it was more that there was very little emphasis by the right on the victims, and more on the shooter and his religion.

The one year anniversary, like Pride Month, basically went unacknowledged by Trump and the White House.  I have no doubt that if Omar Mateen had walked into a Christian church and slaughtered 50 people, June 12 would be a gotdamned national day of mourning marked by a special uber-jingoistic holiday to mark the even.

But boy howdy, in the days after the massacre, Trump and his morons were sure quick to try and convince the LGBT community to join him in his fear-mongering of all things Muslim.

But since it was just a bunch of queers, not a word beyond some vague tweet about it.

The evangelical community has to be some infinitesimally small shiat to Disney. And they haven't even opened the Star Wars Land yet.

I'd like to see the Ark Encounter. I'd like to see how they explain how they fit two (it's actually more than that in the Bible) of every animal onto a boat.

"Well it's not every animal, it's every type of animal."

"And by what method does every type of animal become every animal?"

"...."

"Say it...."

I wouldn't want anyone who believed the bullshiat on display at The Ark Encounter or The Creation Museum anywhere near my home.  That being said, if I ever feel an urge to return to Disney, I'll just wait until it is raining, find a hot parking lot, and stand there while tearing up $100 bills.  It would save time and avoid standing in line beside smelly French people.

I've known people who use the Disney boycott as a reason not to go.  Most of them can't afford Disney vacations, so the boycott is very convenient.  Instead, they rent a concrete box at Orange Beach and spend the week sitting in crowded pools and shiatty restaurants.

Anyway - why go to Orlando to see imitations of Europe?  With the reduced number of tourists to Europe, now is the time to go see Paris.

I made it this far in TFA:

The city of Orlando has so much embraced the pro-gay/lesbian campaign after Pulse that many evangelical Christians worry - with justification - that this crazed jihadist attack on America was not an attack by a jihadist but by an anti-gay individual.

Then my brain went "LOL WUT?" and hit the eject button.

Thanks for the follow-up!  I especially loved this part:

But the worst part of the piece (if that's possible) is that, in addition to being logically flawed, it struck me as unethical - since the author used the entire piece to promote his own business and shill for a Noah's Ark attraction in northern Kentucky - an attraction the author is paid by.

Apparently the author of the article cited by subby owns the Creation Museum (the other business cited in TFA) and is a paid cheerleader for the Ark Encounter.  I had a good chuckle over that.

Plus, it's explained the Disney isn't losing any business by "catering" to LGBT people; they're actually trying to reduce the number of visitors to their park in order to create a better experience for those who attend.  So, any business lost to snowflake christians is no skin off Disney's ass.

I understand why the Orlando Sentinel ran the story - it's always best to shine a white-hot spotlight on hate - and I hope that rumblings of boycotting them fizzle out.  They've long supported the LGBT community, even back when it was dangerous to do so.

"... many evangelical Christians worry - with justification - that this crazed jihadist attack on America was not an attack by a jihadist but by an anti-gay individual.

Last year, when then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch visited Orlando, she said, "Our most effective response to terror and hatred is compassion, unity and love." Think about this: Does anyone truly believe that the Pulse gunman, an Islamist terrorist, would have altered his plans to kill people if only we had loved him more?"

Calling him an Islamist terrorist aside (something even Trump seems to be backing away from because it tends to make it seem like a battle between us and all Islam), this nutter says that he wasn't a jihadist in one paragraph and changes his mind in the very next paragraph.

If it is discouraging bigots from going to Disney, that's a plus in my book.

For all this guy's predictive surveys, you'd think he would have mentioned that they'd see significantly falling visitor totals after that.

When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, He will sit on His glorious throne. All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate the people one from another, as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will place the sheep on His right and the goats on His left.
Then the King will say to those on His right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave Me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave Me something to drink, I was a stranger and you took Me in, I was naked and you clothed Me, I was sick and you looked after Me, I was in prison and you visited Me.'

Then the righteous will answer Him, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You something to drink? When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? When did we see You sick or in prison and visit You?'
And the King will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did for Me.'

Then He will say to those on His left, 'Depart from Me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave Me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave Me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, I was naked and you did not clothe Me, I was sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.'

And they too will reply, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?'
Then the King will answer, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for Me.'

And they (the goats) will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."

A seasonal park on a weekday at the very beginning and end of season when some kids are in school comes pretty close to that.
