they'd best hope nobody with even rudimentary hacking skills survives the initial blasts, else those doors will be relatively easy to hack.  all it takes is time.

If comic books have taught me anything, it's that we'll become radioactive carnivores who'll view those vaults as tasty snacks. Crunchy on the outside, chewy on the inside.

Personally, i'm hoping to mutate into a super intelligent brainy type.  all mental powers and control, ya know?  then I can just mind control the trumper mutates into cannon fodder and wage war for the glory of mutant kind.

This has got to be the most obvious headline I've ever read.

My brain immediately went to the 'Fallout' series soon as I read the article.

Really, though, if the nukes fall, what's left to live for?

Yay! You're alive in a metal and concrete can below ground. The way of life you knew is gone.

If the nukes are gonna fall, I hope I get vaporized while the rich assholes go all Lord of the Flies on each other.

I'm too fond of medical care, dentistry, anti-biotics, hot showers and regular meals to ever want to see WWIII happen.  anyone who wants to live out the apocalypse can move to gotdamn Russia.

I've actually been on a project for my corporate overlords to develop IT strategies that would help my former company remain viable after the asian bird flu wiped out half of mankind.  the CEO had a thing about the End of Days.  why yes, he was an uber christian!  go figure, right?

*sigh*

at any rate, I got a feel for what the corporate types at least plan on doing for their personal survival bunkers (which the company pays for, mind you - NOT them.  they never use their own money for anything).  suffice to say that front line security was....lacking.  the assumption was that the rank and file humanity would be too stupid to actually damage their core business and/or get into the bunker complexes.  I strongly disagreed, but saw little reason to correct their mistaken base assumptions.

Judging by the various and sundry experiments that Vault-Tech ran on the inhabitants of said vaults; I prefer the cleansing fire of a cascading atomic reaction.

What, does TFA's author expect a bunker big enough for all 300 million of us?

In any case, none of this is secret. Raven Rock and Mount Weather are both well known, the continuity of government plan is public knowledge, etc.

So they can sell our republic out to the Russians and survive the devastation that results when their plan literally blows up in their faces?

I've been saying this for years.  It's much worse than that.  There are men like Mercer that are starting to see nuclear war as a convenient way to reduce our numbers.  As a bonus, the ensuing nuclear winter will help sequester methane hydrates and permafrost bound greenhouse gases.

And yes, the Elites believe in global warming, they just publicly muddy the waters to keep the people fighting among themselves.  They'll just kill us all while they hunker down in their bespoke shelters for a decade.

one of my guilty pleasures in the fallout series is hunting for vaults and finding out what sort of horrible mind wrenching soul crushing experiments were inflicted on the captive population.

a visit to Vault Tec's regional HQ in D.C. was both enlightening and depressing in nearly equal measure.  they DID leave open the possibility tho that senior Vault Tec personnel did manage to survive the war.

I'm not kidding. The next time someone tries to sell you something by making you afraid just haul off and kick him in the nuts. Everyone benefits. It's a win win.

I've always found Vault 11 to be the most captivating in its downfall. Maybe it's because a vault where a political party enjoyed unlimited power and prestige at the expense of their fellow vault dwellers seems frighteningly relatable.

What was the vault where the rich were told they would lord over the place and as an experiment they, well, didn't? I forget the exact story of that one.

I had a professor in college whose job at one point was helping to select or update previous selections of which parts of Russia got nuked if it came to us pushing the red button.  The first day of his class was 9/11 so needless to say that was a very interesting class.  I just wish today that I had shown up for more of it.
That being said, if this were to ever happen I wouldn't be around long enough to care.  As I type this I can see the lights atop the mountain that houses NORAD.  I'm looking at them right now.

The one in Far harbour i think.

#SPOILER#

The one where all the rich people got in when the part of the vault for them was finished then the funding for the rest dried up (since the really rich guy overseer paid for it all) and they closed up. Then all the residents got turned into robobrains.

Wasn't there a bunker for rich people that was supposed to be huge, like a luxury hotel. But when they got there they had to share rooms with their families and it was led by a crazy homeless guy?

groppet: Wasn't there a bunker for rich people that was supposed to be huge, like a luxury hotel. But when they got there they had to share rooms with their families and it was led by a crazy homeless guy?

I think you're mixing up two different vaults.  there was a vault designed along the lines of establishing a small elite population of super rich who made all the decisions, had all the firepower and all the control over a bunch of poor people....but in that vault the poor people got vaporized before they could get there, and the rich people got very very weird and eventually turned themselves into cyborgs to wait out the end of the world.

then there was another vault (not completed before the Fall) where the idea was to find the most insanely rabid anti government full on conspiracy type and have him lead a vault with a lot of built in maintenance issues and see how it all goes.  again, that one never actually got completed before the world ended.

Vault 12 for me. Never knowing that your vault's main door wouldn't close, just to have everyone either die of radiation poisoning or get ghoulified, Vault be damned.

On the flip side, lucky winners who went into Vault 15. Functioned as designed, survivors ended up founding NCR.
