Gay days were this week at Disney. We go there on Wednesday after the official Disney days, but the large numbers of LGBT families (with and without kids) was moving.

I'm gonna call BS on this one. It just don't feel right. Yes..the guy might have been estranged from his gay son.  But there can be other reasons why he did not collect the body...the 7K or more cost for funeral expenses for one.
And not having resources etc...I can see some saying "leave it to the county..I'm not (Or can not) take the liability"

And there's no follow up with names etc. With a few million raised for families in the months AFTER the shooting. I bet even a hypothetical estranged father would take some sweet rainbow six digit money.

Yeah without any actual statement from the father this feels like some speculation.  Granted it's absolutely something that MIGHT happen, but nothing seems certain here.  If you're poor and a family member dies sometimes the bottom line is "we'd love to have a proper memorial service but... hey, poor and all that!"  There could be other reasons too.

Let's not let this distract us from Pride Month and events. I'm really not into vigils or even the local parades etc.
Our local Pride org rented out a bowling ally and we did that; it was a blast.
My dream vacation is to go to Sydney Australia for their Gay Pride celebration (which is in February).
Which is an event that EVERYONE gay and straight loves as a Mardi Gras type celebration.

The original story does say sources confirm that was the reason. If his father was from PR, it's not impossible.

Yeah, I'm also in the "fark all of the assholes giving this guy shiat because they're assuming he was a bigot on zero actual evidence" camp.

In fact, fark you even if he was having a superficially bigoted reaction.  If you can't sympathize with someone reacting to the death of their child with irrational anger and lashing out at whoever is most convenient (including the child), then you're so lacking in empathy you don't even count as a human being in anything more than the technical biological sense.  There are people in persistent vegetative states who are more functional members of society than you, please get the fark off our planet until you've taken some time to rethink your life.

Don't kid yourself. As it is, the bare minimum cost to legally get my dad's ashes into a ziploc bag in Florida was about 1.5k in 2008, so probably around 2k now, and it wasn't an up-front/one-time payment thing, either. If that asshole actually cared about his own farking child he would have had multiple options to work with. The article was full of other bullshiat that happened to other victims, too. It's 2017 and this nonsense still happens.

We remember you, friends. I speak from experience and my heart when I say I've seen the ugly side of families rejecting family members because they were gay. To this day my dad still thinks teh gays are an abomination unto the lord because reasons and hasn't accepted his brother even after he died in the early 90's.

I carry Uncle Doug's zippo every single day and hope his brother will find peace in the hell he has made for himself. I'm literally carrying a torch for you <3

No, sadly... This is a religious thing. Even the worst Muslim gets buried, and quickly. Even if a family disavows him.

TBH, I think they should work on that, arguing that a person like this was not Muslim. It could carry weight if whole sects of Islam would consider this... perhaps re-define how terrorism works.

I do not concur with your opinion.

I see this issue locally in the Bible Belt. Even the pop group Fun praised a charity in Nashville that helped underage kids kicked out of their homes after they came out as GLBT. We have one such nonprofit here in Alabama helping such kids. It's a bitach though as laws aren't set up to help teens caught in these situations.

Sucks to be GLBT in Alabama. But we're trying to watch your backs, people. 🏳🌈

Do cemetaries ever reject people?

2017-06-11 12:46:36 AM
Blacks are born in black homes. Jews in Jewish homes. This rule is seldom wrong. But gays and other minorities of that ilk are born into heterosexual homes, and often relgious fundamentalist homes.

Scientific studies suggest that sons in large families are more likely to be gay or bisexual, especially the younger sons. There may be a genetic or an epigenetic reason for this. Perhaps having a lot of sons encourages Mother Nature to hedge a bit. Perhaps having a lot of macho, macho big brothers suppresses your desire to be like them.

In any case, gays are born into the Enemy Camp very often. Imagine if Jews were born to Aryan Nazis.

Yikes! What an unpleasant world that would be.

This is why gays and lesbians often regard their communities of choice and selection to be their real families and regard their biological families as enemies. You can understand that if you try.

I know there are a lot of parents and sympathetic relatives. They have their own "self-help" groups and they often become advocates for gay tolerance and gay rights because they know a gay personally, and love him or her as they love all of their children.

Let us remember the gay parents and the gay activist parents as well as their children and grandchildren.

It ain't easy being born in the Enemy Camp, whoever the Enemy might be. Leaving your tribe of birth for a tribe of affinity and choice is not easy regardless of the marks of membership.

Four HUNDRED Thirty Thousand.

Begoggle: Imagine if Christians did the same for those Christians who die who committed crimes.

At certain points in history, they did. Sort of, at least; the bodies were often still physically buried, because you have to dispose of the body somehow, and that's how most people in most Christian-held lands dealt with the dead at the time. But they wouldn't do it in cemeteries or churchyards or other sacred or honored places. This is where the old legends of people buried at crossroads or in potters' fields or similar ignominious places come from.

Sometimes this was done with other classes of people or deaths too, such as suicides or heretics. It's largely for this reason, I think, that the whole practice is now considered barbaric.

I don't understand hating a loved one so much that would wouldn't claim their body. Unless what they did was a committed a heinous crime against you. I've got cousins who are rapists, and I'd claim their body and give them a burial. A cheap ass burial, though.
