Sadly, "tuture" will not be.

This is a prep for the tweet-storm that will come from him during Comey's testimony.  Trump wants out.  He will never resign, so he wants to be forced out in a way that he can say it was unfair and SAD.  He wants to save face.

At this point, if forced out he can do that.  If they keep digging, his entire empire will fall.  He's ready to cut bait and run, and told Spicer to say this.

Are presidents allowed to delete "official statements"?

If you treat tweets as oral rather than written speech, historians could follow the usual journalistic practice of correcting obvious mistakes. Of course, that assumes they can figure out what he meant to say.

I read that Ted Kennedy complained about one of Boston's news sources incorrectly translating oral to written speech and the payback was a transcription with every "um" and "er" left intact.

So, can they use the old 'my account was hacked' when the tweets are used against him in court?

Good. Now let's talk about the  Presidential Records act  44 U.S.C. §§ 2201-2207 and the deleted tweets.

This may turn out to be an interesting rhetorical exercise.

He might want to rethink that in light of a) the archival rules around official statements and b) the court cases we all know are coming.

People have been bringing that up, and he calls it "personal", unless, of course, he wants it to be official.

It seems like they are now, since he done this several times already. Then again, what is going to happen about it? He could rape the children of the GOP congresspeople in front of them and they will applaud him being tough on children talking back and how great the party is. It will be party before country forevermore.

'Deleting' them from Twitter isn't exactly destroying official records. Twitter probably still has them and everybody has seen them. Some poor IT guy is probably going to have to work with Twitter to officially archive EVERY tweet he's made though.

Covfefe in a history book?

Not in Texas. Not without a little something for the textbook approval folks favorite charity which rhymes with Pee Tarty. And by a "little something" I mean a "big something."

Hold the phone, Farkers! Isn't someone suing Trump for blocking them from his twitter feed for this very issue? The Presidential Tweets ( ffs ) are official statements and therefore the 1st Amendment allows us all to see them. Much like ISIL attacking Iran, this ads a whole new deck of cards to the collapsing house.

/ Idiocracy never seemed so real

Read The Presidential Records Act of 1978, at least the wiki version.

It won't matter that Spicer said Trump's tweets were official statements when someone tries to use them in court to prove the intent of any of his executive orders.  Trump's lawyers will just say that Spicer was lying and that the official statements of the President's press secretary have no bearing on what is or is not an official statement by the President.

So Trump stroked out (making him mistype a word) and then went ahead and hit:

If this were ME tweeting about Toad the Wet Sgrogems, this would be a non-story. This is the "leader of the free world" who can't handle tweeting (or even using Autocarrot!) without f*cking it up.  If he did have a stroke, then maybe he needs to see a f*cking doctor. Either way, there's no good reason for the President to be sending sloppy tweets, ever.

Jesus, what an embarrassment.

I've seen a good point being brought up on Facebook... if Donald Trump's tweets are, in fact, official government statements, does that mean that his blocking people on Twitter (thus rendering them unable to see his tweets) is a violation of their First Amendment rights?

Spicy...you DO realize that makes your job not just obsolete, it pretty much guarantees that any court preceedings can cite you and the President on using his Tweets as the basis for intent, right?

I mean, they are. Direct quotes from very public statements DO clear up a lot, and Donnie can't help but "asplain" himself...
