There is one exception.  During the Zulu parade on Mardi Gras day, it is not only acceptable to wear black face if you are in the Krewe, it is tradition.  Black, white or in between, you wear blackface, an afro wig, and you even throw coconuts into the crowd.

You will know your work is done al.com when you stop the racist farmers from growing watermelons and make KFC change their racial trigger menu. Or you could get to the job of, you know, reporting the god damned news! This is more of that constant blogging and editorializing you do in order to drive up web traffic and in this case creating a narrative and the parents of these girls should sue your balls to the wall for slander.

Roight, guv. You probably think Fox Propaganda is Fair & Balanced®.

Probably because there are lots of very talented black men that can play a character that specifically is black. Laurence Fishburne's portrayal in the 1995 film was excellent, and that movie was one of the few we watched in a high school English class that I enjoyed.

The way people take liberties with Shakespeare production you could remove specifically black.  Forbidden Planet turned a human character into a robot.

Huh.  Do you think there is a large part of the community that DOES like it?

I know you feel you're being edgy but it is possible you have confused that concept with simply being douchy.

I dunno, Othello especially, the differences between Othello and Desdemona are pretty farking important to Iago's craziness.

My desire is that not only should no one ever wear blackface again, they should also completely avoid anything that could be construed to be blackface (apparently the case here), in order that I never again have to read anyone complaining about seeing someone wearing blackface.

When I was growing up -- long before many of you were even a thought in you Daddies head, I noticed some things.

We imitated and made fun of: Japanese, Germans, especially the French, the Polish, the Italians, Blacks, Hillbillies, and Mexicans.

Minstrel shows had gone by the time I came around, but I saw old films of them in movies and discovered that even Black actors put on makeup to exaggerate their lips and eyes and performed in the shows.

Now, I was growing up in the middle of the Jim Crow years. We did have the black water fountains and bathrooms, blacks could eat in only certain sections of diners, some had entrances only for blacks. In court rooms, Blacks had their designated seating areas. Black folks used to step out of line when my Mom went into the bank, but she wasn't racist. She ushered them back in line in front of her -- something many rarely accepted, which confused me at first, until I realized others spotting them in front of a White Lady could get them in hot water.

I recall on TV the Irish were drunk, combative and sneaky people, the Italians were loud, aggressive and combative and often thieves. Their family meetings were like little wars. The young men would not hesitate to pull a knife on anyone who disagreed with them.

The Polish were funny, made good foods, low income laborers and clumsy. The French were arrogant cowards who made good foods. The cowardliness came from giving in to Hitler without hardly a shot and then joining him to fight Americans. Japanese were yellow, goofy people, portrayed as wearing glasses, being overly polite. The Chinese were considered the same, only sneaky, crooked and heavily into drugs.

We had a lot of war movies back then, and you can guess who the bad guys always were, but the Nazi's were always considered the most evil and deadly.

We also made fun of the Jews. A lot of post war cartoons had 'funny' Jewish people in then, drawn in stereotypical style. We did not get around to making fun of Catholics for decades, though from the actions of the Catholic Church during WW2, we should have.

Then the Cowboy and Indian movies. The Indians were nearly always the bad guys. The white settlers the innocent ones, even though they were stealing millions of acres of land from the Indians and spreading disease.

In dozens of Cowboy movies, we were fighting the Mexicans, usually depicted as swarthy, dirty men in oversized sombreros and lots of guns strapped to their waists, sneaky and not to be trusted. Or simple peasants who scurried out of the way of trouble.

The battle of the Alamo is history as a Great Heroic Encounter. However, it was a non-essential military target, it was deep in Mexican Territory, not even a fort and held no interest for the US military. So, naturally it got over run, by a Mexican Army which was outraged that the US 'defenders' had taken over a chunk of their property. Movies back in the 50's presented the Mexican Army as a bunch of deadly, ruthless, murdering clods and the defenders of the Alamo as shining Heroes.

So, we've been making fun of all races -- Including ourselves -- for as long, if not longer, than the nation has existed.

I think even today, many areas, especially schools, have the Sadie Hawkins Day dance, which refers back to the cartoon of Dog Patch USA, which was later renamed 'Lil Abner', which was about a clod-like family of Hillbillies, who lived up in the mountains and woods, where they carried long guns -- black powder rifles --, made moon shine, had the fat 'Mammy', the skinny old 'Pappy', lived in a log cabin and were about as bright as bricks. Now and then they got into feuds with neighbors, Pappy liked his corn liquor a whole lot and no one but 'Lil Abner' wore shoes. He was a big, powerful backwoods kid, about as simple as could be and good hearted.

Hee Haw was a popular TV show based on Hillbillies, with the actors portraying exaggerated hillbilly traits.

Now, anyone else we are going to offend?

BTW. Western movies also depicted the Confederates of the Civil War usually in a bad light. The Rail Roads killed off hundreds of thousands of Chinese workers, paid them shiat wages and often just buried them along side the track in unmarked graves. Plus white folks hated them because they took jobs away on the tracks, but they worked for a lot less. At the time, Black people working on the rails got paid more than them but less than Whites.

I recall a Black TV show, no longer allowed on the air: Amos and Andy. They were 'too black' for the Blacks. The same with a show called 'The Big Fish'. Cancelled because even though they were Black, the Blacks were offended.

With my genetic racial makeup, we've 'offended' about 2/3 of my people.

I personally don't care.
