TheFoz: Tweet about locking up the leaker in 3..2..1..

But you see, the problem isn't that the White House is on fire, no, the real problem is that the house is made of wood.

Gordon Bennett: A third government official briefed on the meeting defended the president, saying Mr. Trump was using a negotiating tactic when he told Mr. Lavrov about the "pressure" he was under. The idea, the official suggested, was to create a sense of obligation with Russian officials and to coax concessions out of Mr. Lavrov - on Syria, Ukraine and other issues - by saying that Russian meddling in last year's election had created enormous political problems for Mr. Trump.

I love seeing this wankers twist and turn and lie and distort in order to attempt to polish the turd in the Oval Office only to have Emperor Commodus himself completely undermine their carefully concocted image of him every time he shiats out another tweet.

The problem is everyone who has half a brain can see through it, but the people who believe in Trump eat it up.  This will just further their resolve.

It's kinda scary how deep their resolve is.  I wonder what some of these RWNJ will do if he actually gets impeached.  Most of these folks are the militia types.  I wonder if they'll prove that Right Wing militias are truly a bigger threat then Islamist terrorists in the US.

I'm concerned about how the President's overseas cell phone data charges are going to affect the national budget over the next 12 days.

1. "There's no reason for the White House to keep transcripts of official meetings with foreign dignitaries" is not a thing anyone remotely intelligent would think.

2. The White House isn't denying that Trump said it. They're just spinning it as a joke or negotiating tactic or some other "ha ha he wasn't serious" line.

AdmirableSnackbar: johnny queso: imagine the most ridiculously far fetched set of circumstances you could imagine happening under this administration.

you're not even close.

I very much see this trip ending with Trump running away to Russia.  I'm a little surprised they let him leave.

A few days ago I started thinking this could be Watergate and the OJ Simpson Bronco Chase combined.  With this news I think the possibility of that is greater and greater.

Let him leave?  Getting high so early in the day...

Trump will still be president this time next year.

If we have Republicans supporting impeachment by then it will only happen because their poll numbers with their base have crashed.  And their base is Trump, all the way thru.

Much like they didn't ask to see the Comey Memo, you know the one that directly contradicts what Comey has said about the situation?

All it takes now to make an accusation in this mess is a call to a NYT reporter with an unverifiable story about something supposedly exists.

Sean Spicer, the White House press secretary, did not dispute the account.
In a statement, he said that Mr. Comey had put unnecessary pressure on the president's ability to conduct diplomacy with Russia on matters such as Syria, Ukraine and the Islamic State.

Again: even the White House isn't calling this fake. They're just spinning it. You guys got nothin'.

This is the thing that really gets me about this whole thing.  People aren't like superheroes, where someone may literally be the only person capable of doing something.  Did he really think that it would just stop an official investigation if the guy leading it was gone?  Did he think that Comey was pursuing this matter entirely solo?  Did he think?

The White House document that contained Mr. Trump's comments was based on notes taken from inside the Oval Office and has been circulated as the official account of the meeting. One official read quotations to The Times, and a second official confirmed the broad outlines of the discussion.

"Mr. Spicer said. "The investigation would have always continued, and obviously, the termination of Comey would not have ended it. Once again, the real story is that our national security has been undermined by the leaking of private and highly classified conversations.""

The whining, hypocrisy and projecting here is just... there are no more words.
And, why yes, our national security was undermined by the leaking of private and highly classified conversations: Trump revealing code word level Israeli secrets to russian embassadors.

These are 100% unforced errors. It's... Something Wonderful.

2017-05-19 04:54:03 PM

Doubleodoug: That's the defense du jour. No one is so stupid as to think firing the head of the FBI would make the investigation go away. Therefore Trump couldn't have fired him to derail the investigation.

Trump asked Comey to make the Flynn investigation to go away. Then fired Comey and said the pressure was off. Yes, he is dumb enough to think it would have ended there.

Remember all of Trump's previous companies are LLCs with 3-5 employees and everyone else is a contractor. He made his money by having enough resources to threaten the contractors he worked with. So while he "negotiated" with them he had a gun under the table to ensure things went his way.

Trump has wandered out onto a field where his money and previous experience don't mean a hill of beans. In his personal empire if he said "This ends now", what ever it was ended. In the government the two other branches of government can throw a monkey wrench into what ever you want to do (see the last 4 months). Even parts of the administration are expected to operate without direct presidential oversight to prevent conflicts of interest (ie Justice, the AG, the FBI). The best the president can do is slow or stall these investigations.

This is because The President is President and not a King. Trump is used to being a King of his little land, where he could do what he wanted in it and was beholden to no one. The Presidency is the exact opposite - The president is beholden to everyone and is severely restricted on what he can do without cooperation of the other two branches of government.
