Well, there's Scott Stapp, too.  But his career's been dead for decades.

Well, I think we could all list the bevy of copy-cats that came along as the whole grunge thing exploded, many of them still being alive.  But in terms of the real-deal ones, they really are all dead except Vedder it seems.

There are some bands that were on Sub-Pop and related labels that never made it huge that are probably still around.  But of the big ones, the article is right.

Oh, I wasn't seriously putting Staff in that class.  I just wanted to make a cheap pot shot.

All of the ghosts of my youth are gone, save Eddie.

And that's not really much consolation.

/Sorry, PJ fans

Dave Grohl is still alive and kicking and rocking.  That first Foo Fighters album was grungy as hell.

Yeah, Kurt's drummer's band does pretty good work.

Cornell was 53. I'd say 55+ is when you can stop being shocked at death by natural causes -- quick-onset cancer, heart attacks, etc.

Would we really be having this "woe unto the untimely death of the titans of grunge" navel-gazing if Cornell had died of a heretofore-unknown heart defect while out jogging?

I was a weird kid in the 90's. I was never into the grunge stuff at all. In fact I didn't even know who Chris Cornell was. The only one I know from this list if I'm being honest is Kurt Cobain. I was pretty heavy into Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Dio and on and on.

Not saying that Soundgarden made bad music, just saying that the only song I know by them is Black Hole Sun and that's only because my job has the radio permanently on JACK FM.

2017-05-19 11:05:38 AM
You guys keep leaving out the Gin Blossoms, Collective Soul, and the GoGo Dolls.

The guys from Mudhoney and The Melvins are still alive. That's all that counts.

I'm interested to see what happens at Rock On The Range tonight. Soundgarden is still the headline band so I don't know what they'll do. It will be rough with barely a day to process their thoughts.

That's unfortunate. I knew a guy like this at another job. He was pretty upset about his stubbornness after I burned him Bsdmotorfinger.

Yea, I would still be upset and in shock.   We grew up with these guys as the soundtracks to our lives........it was a shock when Bowie died, too.    Personally, I'm gonna be a in a corner, sobbing to myself when MJK dies.

Exactly. RHCP are/were Alt Rock, but not gunge. Technically Alice in Chains were more metal than grunge. Had they emerged at a different time and/or place they would have been marketed that way.
