Seems like the Chinese pilot had just watched Top Gun and was having a little fun. I hope he does not get into to much trouble.

Actually, it was the American pilot who was upside down; remember, they were near China, which is on the other side of the planet, so the American would have been upside down to them.

I work for the Chinese Air Force, so I'm really getting a kick out of some of these replies.

...with one of the Su-30s flying inverted, or upside down...

Thanks for clarifying what inverted means. At first  I thought he was flying inside-out

Could have been worse. The Chinese pilot could have got a hold of the American pilot's coke and played a joke.

Yeah I thought maybe he'd raised it to the power of -1.

Seems normal for that model.
You're probably more used to seeing the high bypass engines on commercial jets.

Hey China, you don't need to do this. We already have the Blue Angels to do that inverted flying stuff, and they get bigger audiences than whoever is in the South China Sea. You already make all of our electronic toys. Let us have our dangerous flying stunts.

I believe they overfuel like crazy when under full take-off power. A case of "get as much fuel in there as possible, but fer gawd's sake DON'T make it run lean. Too much is better than too little.  It's the 21st century with all the electronic engine control they could ever want, but there you go. Maybe an emergency take-off regime allows a little bit more fuel than is absolutely necessary, becasue you can't wait for all the sensors to catch up. What would I know?

Next week's Tom Sawyer: Yeah I thought maybe he'd raised it to the power of -1.

I thought the pilot somehow hydrolyzed himself into monosaccharides.  Glad that was cleared up.

Why do you Amricans think that China is opposite the USA? That if you dig straight down you'll surface in China? Both countries are in the Northern hemisphere so can't be directly opposite...

Just you.  Old style turbo jet engines always had dark exhaust, especially on takeoff if the water injection was on at high thrust.

We don't. But t's funny and Australia has enough problems, what with everything trying to kill them.

Swiss Colony: That if you dig straight down you'll surface in China?

No. So they wouldn't be "upside down", more of an oblique. But oblique isn't as funny, even if it sounds funny.

Besides, everyone knows if you were to dig straight down far enough you'd simply fall out the other side, maybe bouncing off a turtle on your way down.

810 is conditions for testing & qualification, not environmental impacts like noise, emissions, etc.  Commercial and private equipment is subject to EPA and other rules.  Military equipment is not.

If I remember correctly, that model has water injection to increase power at takeoff.  I could be wrong, though

It's you. That plane was built in the 50s. So were C-130s, B-52s, and who knows what in the other services. You have to keep these around longer to afford cutting edge static displays like the F-35.
