thank god. i was getting a huge craving for wise-cracking 8-year-olds, fat guys with hot wives, and lawyers whose haircuts cost more than my monthly salary.

In related news: Fall TV shows have been focus-grouped, studied, and preplanned to death. Mediocrity ensues.

The only TV shows that seem to get any support from network executives are the ones that are similar to what people are already watching. The trend won't stop until we get spinoffs like, "CSI: Sacramento" and "Law and Order: Meter Maids Unit."

Then again, I'm still waiting for "Harvey Birdman: Special Offenses Unit Investigating Criminal Victims Investigations."

"and comedies starring Jennifer Love Hewitt and Jessica Simpson"

These are bound to be a hit!

How many episodes do you think the sitcom Joey will last?

2004-05-17 12:16:19 PM
"IS FATHER IS THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY!"

What the hell does that mean?

How many episodes do you think the sitcom Joey will last?

I think this may usher in a new era of pre-emptive cancellation.

2004-05-17 12:18:49 PM
This season will rock! Especially the gay naked quadriplegic twins version of Survivor.

2004-05-17 12:18:54 PM
I expect the sucking will be so bad that some Mexicans sneaking into Texas will end up in Vancouver.

2004-05-17 12:19:44 PM
there are only two shows I care about, and has almost shrugged of the mortal coil:

Las Vegas
Keen Eddie

2004-05-17 12:19:46 PM
Are there any new shows on any network that anyone here is excited to see?

Anyone, anyone? Beuller?

2004-05-17 12:20:38 PM
Didn't RTFA, but I already live in disgust of the current schedules. Can't imagine the horrors we are going to be subjected to.

2004-05-17 12:20:58 PM
CBS should change its name to CSI. Another CSI spin off, this time set in New York? how f'ing original.

2004-05-17 12:21:03 PM
They couldn't be bothered to mention Scrubs, Becker, or Enterprise, the only three new shows on worth watching?

And why the hell hasn't Whose Line been on lately?

Huge sucking sound? So fellatio is finally allowed on broadcast TV?

/didn't RTFA

Fox needs to hit paydirt with something new: it has two projects, for instance, about law enforcement agents infiltrating high schools.

22 & 23 Jump Street?

2004-05-17 12:23:15 PM
CSI: Law and Order Special Crime Victims in Las Vegas and something about the Navy Unit.

Must see TV!

2004-05-17 12:23:35 PM
When will they bring back "Manimal"?

Keen Eddie is brilliant. I cursed Fox for cancelling it. Bravo to Bravo for picking it up. The only thing that sucks is that they won't make any more episodes, other than the original 13. Also, Bravo, and Fox for some strange reason, decided to air the episodes put of order, which wreaks havoc on the storyline continuity, such as Eddie and Fiona's relationship. Plus you get the American/Scot bar introduced and explained after Bravo already showed 3 episodes with it appearing.

I'm wondering if Arrested Development will get a second season. I like that show.

2004-05-17 12:25:02 PM
I won't turn on my TV again until Family Guy is back.

2004-05-17 12:25:09 PM
Oh boy.

Among the new TV series that CBS is planning on releasing this fall:

Tony Kornheiser project - This comedy, for which CBS hasnt settled on a name, stars Jason Alexander as Kornheiser, The Washington Post sports columnist and ESPN host.

2004-05-17 12:25:36 PM
I don't watch network TV.I have the Playboy Channel.

2004-05-17 12:25:56 PM
if Arrested Development gets canceled I will personally go over to Rupert Murdoch's house and take a dump on his lawn.

2004-05-17 12:26:15 PM
No one BETTER be insulting Law and Order: SVU, biatches. That's a damn great show, and it rules that USA shows reruns of it like 16 hours a day.

HIS FATHER IS THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY!

Later.

New series of Coupling, Black Books green-lighted for another series, latest Red Dwarf, Little Britain and more Gordon Ramsey than you can shake a stick at...

Oh wait a minute- that's UK TV

2004-05-17 12:27:24 PM

"Of course, they were the first time the dogs "Coupling" and "Skin" were seen, too."

"Coupling" was a dog because the writing sucked !!!! I caught one episode of the original "Coupling" on PBS, and it's pretty funny (if your able to handle "Brit" comedy.) Yeah, it is a knockoff of Friends, but Coupling was mostly about sex.

Hell, Fox had the show "Action" awhile back. That show was pretty good, and they killed that one off too. So much for original programming.

2004-05-17 12:27:42 PM
survivor- american idol - paradise something - bachelor - millionaire - the fall schedule is ready to go!

(turn on the music and get a good book)

2004-05-17 12:27:46 PM
I think that one of the networks should launch Fark: The TV Show. It would feature a bunch of pasty, overweight virgins talking about how they wouldn't "hit" women who wouldn't even give them the time of day. I bet it would be a laugh-riot.

2004-05-17 12:28:17 PM
Alexis:

Enterprise - old n' busted

Farscape:Peacekeeper War - new hotness

Of course, F:PKW isn't a new show, but I'm looking forward to it far more than that suckfest Enterprise.

Somebody has ripped off a pair of chinos from Banana Republic and the cops of Law & Order: Mall Security Unit are on the scene...after getting a cookie from Mrs. Field's

/dun-dun

Hexane,
I don't blame you. The plots are much more believable, and the acting actually involves some form of talent.

Thank god for BBC imports. I haven't watched US network TV in years... Frasier, although forumlaic, was pretty witty before it jumped the shark. It overstayed its welcome IMHO. Friends has always been a GAP & Pottery Barn commercial. I really gave up on sitcoms pretty much after Cheers ended.

2004-05-17 12:28:31 PM
Fox on Sunday nights is pretty good, even the shows besides the Simpsons. No mention of that in the story.

/Malcolm rox, cancelling Futurama was a mistake.

2004-05-17 12:28:53 PM
Koerner said the buzz she's heard about "Joey" was that it wasn't terrible.

Wow. Such high praise.

"Critics are raving about the fantastic new sitcom!

NY Times: 'Could be worse'
Boston Globe: 'Not as bad as My Big Fat Greek Life'
Washington Post: 'Meh'

Don't miss it!"

I hoping for "That 90's Show". Common FOX it's ratings gold!

2004-05-17 12:30:03 PM
"No one BETTER be insulting Law and Order: SVU, biatches."

Well... it's kind of starting to parody itself, as is the original L&O. I mean, they're just running out of "new" ways to kill or (in SVU's case) molest people.

And "Criminal Intent" has got to be one of the WORST cop shows on the air since "Cop Rock." Goren is an overblown ham on that show, and for some reason, defense attorneys let him do his gonzo "let's-crack-the-suspect-with-confusing-psychobabble" dance every episode without objection. CI is DOA. Feh.

2004-05-17 12:30:14 PM
O.K.! Every show has a wacky neighbor everyone loves, so why not just have an entire show dedicated to that? Nothing but a half-hour of zany antics from wacky neighbors popping in and out of each others' spacious urban (yet always strangely unlocked) apartments? It can't miss!

Zowie! Let's green-light that baby! Make sure there are plenty of product placement tie-ins as well! we can have the actors hold up popular culture items everyone is familiar with, so viewers can identify with them more closely. It'll be comedy gold!

/There are people who earn a living doing things like this to us

2004-05-17 12:30:27 PM
Joey will last for at least one whole season, as deprived Friends viewers will support it for at least that long.

2004-05-17 12:31:04 PM
the only good show on TV is, well, I cant even think of one now. before there was x-files, ally mcbeal, family guy, nba on nbc,
alias comes the closest but only because elektra is hot...

2004-05-17 12:31:28 PM
I think I'll just buy a second bird feeder. I'm getting more entertainment off of my present one than I've gotten from any TV show in months.

2004-05-17 12:31:40 PM
Whee!

/hasn't had television in 9 years

2004-05-17 12:32:47 PM
Network TV is about as exciting as teenage circumcision.

Color me underwhelmed.

2004-05-17 12:33:07 PM
No, no, no, people. What we need is more reality tv!!! I want to see what a bunch of stupid people do when they're put in ridiculously unreal situations together. I want to see stupid people overdo plastic surgery so they can be happy because they now look good. I want to see more stupid people turn courtship into a gameshow so they can find the cutest person to marry for 15 minutes of fame. These are the things that make America great, and I demand more more more!

Yeah, but his partner is hot.

In all seriousness, though, D'Onofrio might be a ham, but he is playing a rather unbalanced character. To explain away the behavior of the defense attorneys, I'll say this: if you were a public defender for a sicko that you had at least a nagging suspiscion was guilty of all charges, wouldn't you let Detective Goran do his thang?

2004-05-17 12:34:25 PM
I can't wait for "Survivor: East St. Louis" to come out.

2004-05-17 12:34:42 PM
If someone picks up Wonderfalls, there will truly be a diety out there worth worshipping.

2004-05-17 12:34:46 PM
The best "prime-time" shows are on cable.

Penn & Teller "Bullshiat," Dead Like Me, Carnivale, etc.

2004-05-17 12:38:18 PM
I propose a new cable channel: The Writers Network, where shows are actually written by writers, instead of network executives and focus groups.

2004-05-17 12:38:28 PM
How about a show where some guy is a family - type trial lawyer by day, and a street cop at night. His wife is a doctor, and they have three kids and a dog. The kids all stay away from drinking and drugs, and any of their friends who don't instantly meet horrific fates, followed by the Mom/Doctor or Dad/Lawyer/Cop intervening at some point to teach the kids A LESSON(tm).

2004-05-17 12:38:32 PM
A meter maid show sound like a decent idea actually. There's something fascinating about a meter maid's power over everyone else in society.

Probably a sitcom though.
