Who the hell has seen La La Land more than 5 times?

2017-04-21 09:55:31 AM
Movies that I can watch multiple times I consider my "background movies". I can throw them on while doing stuff around the house because I know what happens, but any time I want to take a break, I can stop and watch and it'll be a great scene or sequence.

The Rundown
Deadpool
Avengers
Dredd
Edge of Tomorrow
John Wick
Equilibrium
Eurotrip
Wreck-it-Ralph
Guardians of the Galaxy
Hitman (2007 one, terrible movie, but it's a guilty pleasure)
Mean Girls
Snatch

Contact, more than 5 times.

Where's Titanic, Avitar? ET? I've not seen them, but I remember when they came out people seeing them over and over...  My repeats are Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, Beetlejuice, Dammit, Janet, my old mind is blanking and I can't remember the name!!!

Personal list:

The Big Lebowski....gets better with each viewing.
Predator
Animal House
Revenge of the Nerds
Deadpool
Rocky III
Dirty Harry
The Shawshank Redemption
Casino
Goodfellas
Commando

The original Star Wars Trilogy...I recently found the unf*cked versions on VHS when I went through some old stuff...damn glad I held onto an old VCR just in case I found it.  It was great watching Return of the Jedi without the shiatty music number in Jabba's Palace...and the Sarlaac Pit did not have a beak or whatever the hell that was.  But I digress.

I haven't seen it once. I like my Ryan Gosling shirtless and silent.

I've seen 5 of those more than 5 times.

I've seen three of the movies on that list more than 5 times: Star Wars (which is just called "Star Wars", fark that "Episode IV: A New Hope" bullshiat), The Empire Strikes Back, and 2001.

Some of the other movies I've seen more than 5 times:

Goodfellas
The Big Lebowski
Fargo
Boogie Nights
A Clockwork Orange
Full Metal Jacket

Ah.  I'll just blame the fact that it's early here on the West Coast...and that's why it went over my head.

scottydoesntknow: Eurotrip

Ditto.

When I went to Europe last year, I brought along a SCOTTY DOESN'T KNOW t-shirt.

Bonus:  Most of the movie was filmed in Prague, and the place I stayed at was really close to the bridge from the Amsterdam scenes.

Hmmm... taking out the ones I have never seen it isn't a bad list...
The other ones that occur to me would be Ghostbusters(#29), Blade Runner(#45 - well, more because of each of the different releases), Jedi (76) and Revenge of the Sith (#100)
However, the fact that neither Monty Python and the Holy Grail nor Princess Bride are on there is mystifying. Both of those are movies that I know I have seen far more than 5 times each...

2017-04-21 11:10:17 AM
I've seen 7 of that list more than 5 times.  I've never seen 10 of them.

2017-04-21 11:15:52 AM
Every Pixar and Disney animated DVD released between 2006 and 2012, until my kid outgrew them.

2017-04-21 11:25:44 AM
I've seen a few of those more than five times, maybe half a dozen of them. Who hasn't seen all of It's a Wonderful Life more than that just by walking into rooms when it was on back when it was unavoidable? Or A Christmas Story, which isn't on their list?

I never thought about a number as small as five, but I've probably watched a good percentage of the movies I have on DVD at least five times. There are movies I've *bought* five times.

I've seen IAWL all the way through exactly one.  ACS I watch 2-3 times per year since probably 1988 when my dad recorded it on VHS.

I've never seen it.

The Wizard of Oz ffs.

kimwim: Hoopy Frood: It's a Wonderful Life

I've never seen it.

When it was in public domain, there were years when between Thanksgiving and Christmas I'd probably seen all of it, one shot at a time, just by channel surfing and without ever specifically settling in to watch it. I can remember hovering on the channel guide and seeing it listed on what may have been a dozen channels simultaneously.

2017-04-21 12:17:40 PM
Almost all of those, then add every Schwarzenegger movie, Marvel movie (even Howard the Duck), anything Aliens or Predator related, and plenty more. This is a strong indicator of my social and sex lives.

Associating any image of two hands shaking with one of the floats at the end of Animal house is one hell of a big stretch.

How could neither The Godfather nor The Godfather part II make the top 100??!?

2017-04-21 12:26:50 PM
No Rocky farking Horror?  Wow.

2017-04-21 12:27:22 PM
I've watched The Dreamers about 100 times

2017-04-21 12:29:39 PM
A few off the top of my head:

Spy Game (great spy movie IMHO)
Tremors (don't judge me)
Riding Giants (awesome surfing documentary)
Close Encounters (one of the first moves I ever saw in a theater)
The Martian (I don't know what it is about that movie, I will watch it whenever it is on)
Quick Change (I SAW A SIGN, PHYLLIS)

2017-04-21 12:31:52 PM
Two I have seen more than 5x:

*The Usual Suspects (close to 100) (as a teenager it was my fav movie)
*Commando (around 20-30)
*The Science of Sleep (5-6)
*Guarding Tess (The Nic Cage/Shirly McCane one...I was at a boarding school and it was the only VHS they had so any movie day was that). Saw it about 30ish times.

2017-04-21 12:32:31 PM
The Fifth Element...I've lost count of how many times I've seen that movie, but if it's on, I must watch it

Oh yeah...Terminator 1 & 2.

Many many dozen times.

2017-04-21 12:35:42 PM
Shawshank
Casino
Goodfellas

I've seen those so many times. Still can't believe Forest Gump beat out Shawshank.

Second vote for RHPS.  There's a light over at the Frankenstein place!

I rewatch a lot of movies, but I'll keep it to recent choices:
- Die Hard 4 (I just like it, not exactly sure why)
- Major League I/II
- The Nice Guys
- The Big Short
- Spotlight
- Kingsman
- Darjeeling Limited
- Dredd
- End of Watch
- Fast 4-6
- John Wick
- Kill The Irishman
- Rock N Rolla

You keep seeing that film. I don't think it's as good as you say it's good.

Who in their right mind would ever watch 2001: A Space Odyssey more than once?

Yeah, those get some pretty regular cable airings and they're all very rewatcheable.

I don't know why, because it's not a great movie by any means, HBO aired the shiat out of Everest last year and I always found myself watching it.

As for the list, out of the Nolan movies, I find The Prestige much more rewatcheable than Inception.

I've probably seen The Ten Commandments more than 5 times in toto by watching part of it on tv every year for the last 40 years.

I used to watch Metropolitan every year around Christmas time, too. Probably 10-12 times at least.

A Christmas Story used to fall into the Metropolitan category, and now is in The Ten Commandments category, thanks to the round the clock showings on TBS. It's inevitably on in the background wherever we end up going for Christmas.

2017-04-21 12:40:34 PM
The Fisher King at least a dozen times.

Mixed Nuts so much better than A Wonderful Life.
