The apprentice Baba Yaga gig didn't work out?

Nice headline, Subby. Enjoyed that, I did.

So Berkley reverses itself and is now allowing the comedic stylings of Coltface to commence?

But its totes okay cos the building she's speaking at is more secure than the one Milo was gonna use?

Yeah, that's gonna end well.

Meh, IMHO the only thing that would be a bigger waste of valuable time than protesting a Coulter speech would be actually attending said speech.

Ha, in 2002? 2001? Somewhere around there she was scheduled to speak at my college (one of the 7 Sisters)--she cancelled in fear of protesters. And now, with 15 years or reprehensible racism and misogyny (yes, women can be sexist too), this shiat is still happening.

What I'd like to know rather than the protesters and the back and forth cancellations is more on the student orgs who keep inviting these people to campus. It can't be for honest discussion or debate (might as well invite Grand KKK Wizards), but to attention whore and rile things up.

To a certain extent campus visits like this are a good opportunity to "point and laugh".

The University of California, Berkeley: The police had "very specific intelligence" of threats "that could pose a grave danger to the speaker".
Coulter: I'mma show up as originally scheduled next Thursday.

Sounds fair.  If nothing happens, great.  If something does happen, time to bring out the Nelson Muntz meme.

Good. You realize that by protesting and rioting and and attempting to silence them, you actually draw more attention and sympathy to them, right?

E. g. I'm pretty sure I'd never have heard of Milo Y...polis if not for all the protests against him speaking.

To repeat myself from one of the multiple threads on this topic yesterday, a public university isn't an internet forum. If they're going to allow one person to speak, they need to provide the same opportunity to everybody.

No one cares about her. If protestors stay home it will be just a bunch of slack-jawed white supremacists standing around twiddling their thumbs wishing there was someone to fight. Of course that won't happen because the AWs on both sides need to fight.

It might not make them go away, but it denies them the "conflict, repression, pushback, vindication" cycle that helps legitimize their persecution narrative.

Besides, denying them access to public spaces isn't legal, so ignoring it is my favorite option.

No it doesn't.  There are entire economies built up around people like Coulter that are completely insulated from whether or not you give a fark or "push back".  People need scapegoats.  Do you honestly think anyone in this country has a chance of going his entire life without hearing a word about right wing ideology?  And that people who are bitter or fearful won't latch on and start looking into the mountains of supporting "evidence" and literature that already exists?

Again, take a look at the world around you and stop blaming the bad things on people paying attention to hatemongers.  This is the dumbest and most dangerous "wisdom" that oozes from liberal ideology.  It's a kind of arrogant, elitist, naive pacifism that has as much bearing on reality as a theoretical libertarian world where businesses police themselves.  It's fantasy.

It would've only been a matter of time.  It was the hard right's token homosexual who was willing to lend credibility to their WASP nationalist fantasies and "destroy" the arguments of the left using logic that sounded like logic to that crowd but didn't survive any level of scrutiny.

I first saw him on my FB feed from my more conservative friends as he was "one of them ones that got it."  I gave one of his speeches a watch, rolled my eyes, and ignored any future reference to him as much as I could.  The increased exposure he got was the best for the world as the shiat he said made it outside the echo chamber in to the real world where there's at least some opportunity for consequence.   Brietbart might be an extremely suspect organization, but like Fox with O'Reilly, they have to have some response to public backlash even if the behavioral standard is set really, really low.

I'm not sure that I ultimately disagree with you in practice, but there is a conceptual distinction you're not seeing:

Coulter just speaking isn't analogous to segregation itself. The question is, what is more effective at keeping extremist movements (which lead to things like segregation) in check: preventing Coulter from speaking at all, or letting her speak and then pwning her ideas with speech of your own?

In other words, what tactically is the most effective way to execute fearless, organized and peaceful resistance?
