Indeed they are.

We conquered them and colonized them.

They are ours now. A proper state, even.

/How would we deal with a situation if there is a sizable portion of the HI native populace that wishes to leave the US?

I got news for you Perjury Elf: If we decided to go down to 49 and had to pick a state to vote out of the union, Alabama would have a lot more to worry about than Hawaii.

"I really am amazed that a judge sitting on an island in the Pacific can issue an order that stops the President of the United States from what appears to be clearly his statutory and Constitutional power," Sessions said

notice how Sessions implied that somehow 'librul hawaii' isn't part of his United States?  he didn't call Hawaii one of the States.  he called it 'an island in the pacific'.  like they didn't or shouldn't have the same rights and responsibilities as every other state in the Union.  that right there, this one statement tells me in clear terms that Jeff Sessions does not intend to apply the law equally in this country.  his open derision and contempt in just this one off hand comment shows us that, to Sessions at least, some areas of the country have less rights than other presumably more important areas of the country.  Sessions WILL trample the rights of states and groups of people he feels aren't 'real americans'.....and that's an incredibly dangerous attitude to have from any elected official.

There's a strong indigenous Hawaiian movement to be an independent nation as it was before colonization. Maybe the AG is just really in touch with the people of the islands.

And I am really amazed that an incompetent racist f*ckwad is allowed to be AG of the US, especially since you apparently don't have a grasp of either the workings of the judicial branch or basic f*cking geography.

Oh yeah, and f*ck you.

We should have a soccer-style relegation policy.  If you want federal tax dollars you have to stay in the top tier of states.  There'd be a lot of states in the lower tier. (Including mine)

Our constitution was forcibly imposed on those people years ago. I got an idea. Let him go to Hawaii and tell some of the locals that he has to get back to The States. They will not be happy.

legally speaking, there were enough shenanigans with how that whole mess went down that the native population could make a really good case to leave the US and become independent.  not saying they could or they should....but we pulled some sketchy bullshiat to get control over those islands.

LMAO.
Only as long as we also penalize electoral votes.  If your state sucks and is incompetently run, you don't get to tell everyone else how things should work.  Clean up your house first and then maybe you can come to the adult's table.

there are days when I really do get the vibe that Sessions believes (strongly believes) that there are 'real americans' who live in this country....and everyone else, who just exist to drain the lifeforce out of Holy Job Creators and Real Americans like himself.

that sort of thinking is extremely dangerous.

They didn't want to become one and many don't want to be one.

But the US doesn't let go of things once we've subdued the natives and told them what is best for them. It's all about self-determination don't'cha know.

I would say a literal majority of Hawaiians would prefer to be independent of the USA...if it wasn't economic suicide.

Hawaii enjoys tons of money by being the military's outpost. Also all those tourist dollars would be a lot harder to get when you have to deal with US customs.

But there is still a healthy contingent of Hawaiians that would gladly blow it all up, live off the land in the dirt and the ocean and fall asleep on the beach every night.

But you can't get Heineken if you blow up civilization.

That and there's a good chance that his Alabama textbooks ended with referring to the Civil Rights movement as "trouble on the horizon." Understandable that it didn't get to the part about Hawaiian statehood.

when I first read up on the details on just HOW hawaii got added to the united states I was like....how come they're NOT in a near permanent state of insurrection and civil war....we basically kicked 'em in the nuts and then took over their country while they were still doubled over in pain.  we really did NOT treat the native queen with any level of respect at all.  it doesn't help that the main reason we seized control over those islands in the first place was to...yup, you guessed it...defend the interests of US corporations.  in that case, sugar plantations.

if there's ANY state in the Union that would be justified in up and quitting this country, it'd be Hawaii.  And they even have a pretty solid legal foundation for leaving too.  they never asked for or wanted to be americans.  they were literally annexed at gunpoint.
