The NFL is god-damn lucky that a big star hasn't suffered a career-ending injury due to a short week to prepare for the game in one of those shiatty Thursday Night games.

How to give MNF a ratings bump in late October:

Have Gruden dress up as Chucky on the Monday before Halloween.

Sean McDonough can dress up as any of the following:

Telly Savalas
Dr. Evil
Mr. Clean
A broken condom....he just needs wear a pink turtleneck.

Some of it is choice in the preseason.  But unless you're willing to move Sunday games to Monday with short notice, you'll always have those situations where you're stuck with an underperformer versus preseason expectation and maybe even a double.

Nope. It's been sucky since the original triumvirate of Frank, Howard, and Dandy Don were split up.

For me, even with good match ups, MNF is a difficult watch because of Gruden.

so. much. this.

I know he's very experienced and knowledgeable, and can illustrate his points and the game well,
but he sounds like HE'S ALWAYS YELLING and the guys in the booth have just turned his mic
down a few notches.

gawddamb, it's fingernails on a chalkboard.  unwatch/listen-able for me.

I abhor Tirico, and not just because of his sexual harassment history. Plus a lot of fans have already stayed up late the night before (and probably for a better game). People have jobs that start in the morning and can't stay up til midnight or (close to it) 2 nights in a row. Start either SNF or MNF at 7p (sorry, West Coasters)

Has the NFL thought of giving the TNF teams a bye on the preceding Sunday? I think that would help the short week injury concerns, if not eliminate them.

Why do that? They can "sacrifice" what they're doing now as a "concession" to steal something else from the players in the next CBA.

All NFL games should be on Sundays with the only exception of 2 or 3 Thanksgiving games. And this includes playoffs.

Eh....I like Monday Night Football and playoff games on Saturday?  But Thursday games that are not on Thanksgiving?  F*ck that noise.

Yeah...but then we would still have those awful "color rush" uniforms.

And for the record, Seattle does not have the worst color rush uniform, that title belongs to Jacksonville, which looks like:

Baby poop
Grey Poupon
Piss...the kid of piss you take when you are very dehydrated.

Dare I say this, but I think Gruden got a little more tolerable last year.  He doesn't do as many of those Theismann and Simms-esque word salads.  Still needs to cut down on those stupid "that was a football player"s play" type crap though.

Try the Steelers schedule on for size, starting the Sunday before Halloween:
Lions SNF
Bye
Colts
Titans TNF
Packers SNF
Bengals MNF
Ravens SNF
Pats (probably CBS late game of the week)
Texans on Xmas
End vs the FoS

Being a Steelers fan (#2 as Redskins are still #1 to me) I'd be real worried about the Steelers vs Titans game....Playing a mediocre team in the evening on a short week for the Steelers?!  Smells like an upset already.

/didn't know what you meant by FoS
//looked it up...Browns...still doesn't ring a bell
///at least Steelers play decently in night games unlike the Redskins who forget to show up (especially against the Giants)

The plus side of being a fan of a shiatty team are the low number of prime time games you get. Get those noon starts and game over by 3 and you have the rest of the afternoon. But since I follow the Bears, they're given one prime time game a year and usually its another pantsing at the hands of the Packers.
[looks at schedule]
A TNF game (at GB, natch) followed by a MNF game? fark. I hate those 11 day gaps.

New England and Oakland have two road games this season at a mile above sea level... one of them is the home team in Mexico City but that is pretty brutal for either team.

Those two games are back-to-back for the Pats, too. Word is they may try and spend the week between the Broncos and Mexico City games out in either Denver or Mexico so they can stay used to the altitude.

Didn't it used to be a rule that a team playing a Monday night game on the road had to be at home the following week? Not very happy having the Pats play on a Monday night in Miami and then have to go to Pittsburgh the following Sunday.

That's 'cause making two west coast trips in a season is "too hard" on east coast teams (even though traveling west is much easier on your circadian rhythms).

Isn't playing the Dolphins a bye week for the Pats anyways?  /yeah, yeah, I know the Phone can give Pats fits at times

Easier to stay awake when tired followed by a full nights sleep than have to sleep when youre not tired or else go through a whole day deprived
