My conspiracy theory is...

Fox News is a bunch of trolls.  They said and did things not because they believed in them, but just because it pissed Liberals off.  They liked having disgusting people on their network just to tweak their noses.  It's like pretending to be a Nazi just to piss off your neighbors.

But now the Republicans have both Houses, the Presidency, most of the states, and soon the Supreme Court, and it scares the hell of them.  Over the next few months I expect to see a lot more of the crazy people dumped and Fox News actually become more professional.

Trolling is fun...unless it works.

Exactly: it was a boy's club where bedding or demeaning the women was a charming way to increase your stature with male coworkers. Now people are gonna start getting in trouble for doing that for the last couple decades? Totally unfair!

The Jami Turman Fan Club: Fox News is a bunch of trolls

I don't really know what a "troll" is anymore.

It used to be someone who'd wander into a USENET newsgroup, and say some dumb shiat to pick a fight.

Now it seems to encompass that (updated to reflect modern Internet usage), but it also appears to be an actual profession (that Cernovich chump), as well as an excuse for being an appalling human being ("yeah, I mocked a perfect stranger's physical disability for a cheap laugh, but I was just trolling").

The 'trolls' are just there to drive a wedge between the Fox demographic (and thus, the GOP base) and everyone else, and keep them scared, giving the GOP a permanent group of relatively reliable voters. Fox's goal is the same as the GOP's; to help corporations siphon as much cash from the American economy, into the pocket of people who were born rich.

It's been known for a while that Murdoch's sons (the ones who will take over News Corp) were getting sick of Fox News antics.  When Ailes got canned, that was a sign things were going to change.  But O'Reilly's quick dismissal shows that News Corp isn't playing and with $100M down the hole thanks to the environment Ailes created, it probably means the whole thing is going to be shuttered in stages.  Not even a new broom but rather just firing everybody en masse and maybe starting something new in its remains.

I doubt it.  If they were going to do anything with Toyota Lasagna it would have been during Megyn Kelly's departure.  The fact that Carlson got bumped up shows that without Ailes the Fox News Blonde archetype will probably be going by the wayside as well simply because the environment is heaven for lecherous old fools.

I'm sure the entire organization is full of dirty motherfarkers, from top to bottom. In addition to being stupid, their on-air "personalities" (and if ever a word needed sarcastiquotes, that one does) are straight-up creepy as fark.

The men use every opportunity to work some lame-ass sexual innuendo into a conversation, the same people who tsk tsk over the Democrats' lack of "family values" and pimp the make-believe War on Christianity every chance they get.

The women are all googly-eyed Stepford anchors who tee hee in response to the stupid sex jokes, in between segments where they shame other women for being insufficiently good-natured about casual and frequent sexism in the workplace. Before they cash out with a big settlement from Fox News and move on to greener, hopefully less sexist, pastures. Real warriors for women, they are.

I have yet to hear an apology for that from any of them.

"Gosh, I'm sorry I helped a bunch of sexist assholes insult decent women everywhere by playing along with their bullshiat on-air because I liked the big paycheck I got for it. I'm sorry I ever helped create the impression that sexual harassment doesn't exist or isn't a problem for women who make a lot less money than me and have a lot more to lose and almost nothing to gain, certainly not a multi-million-dollar settlement check, by complaining about it."

I know it's awful, but $65 million (of Fox's money) to rid the airwaves of the poison of Roger Ailes and Bill O'Reilly seems like money well spent. I just hope that their victims have the chance to sue them for some of that money in court.

Now mind you: think on the equation that goes into cracking down on this sort of thing.

The cost of compensation and lawsuits is still considered LESS than the cost of just fixing the damn problem. Much like the equation that car companies run internally about recalls...

The magic of the Free Market means that someone will find that need and fulfill it, probably a lot of them.
