(Politico)   AG Jefferson Davis Beauregard Sessions III: "We Can't promise that Dreamers won't be deported" and since, grammatically, two negatives in a sentence cancel each other out, what he REALLY said was "We can promise Dreamers will be deported"   ( politico.com) divider line

I think it's safe to assume everyone in the Trump administration will take the most short-sighted and inhumane action possible, no matter the department.

Not how grammar works here.
Can or can't promise is a separate thing from deporting or not deporting.
Can promise will not deport  is logically distinct from   Can not promise will deport.
Nevertheless, you can't trust these guys to tell you the truth, and can't even trust them to tell you a self-consistent lie, but if you have to bet, bet they are lying.

I'm not sure they totally won't use the government databases to find the addresses and workplaces of 750,000 DACA recipients to show just how quickly they can deport those illegals.

Have you noticed most of the stories of recent deportees have been checking in with ICE regularly before they were taken into custody? That's how they're doing this. People who trusted the government are the ones being targeted. They won't make that mistake again.

It is advantageous for him to remain vague and generally ignore them for now.  He doesn't have the bureaucracy in place to handle the additional number of court cases a revocation of DACA would entail, and he doesn't have enough field agents to create the sort of panic the Eisenhower administration was able to create that lead to massive self-deportations.  Once that changes, I imagine that he'll start going after them full force.

"If they're brown, they're out of town..."

It'll work for a bit, while Sessions can find prosecutors who have zero scruples at running up and stocking Federal prisons. There is a prison industry to feed, and Jess Sessions was born to make black and brown people a resource to mine. Our society has dropped in violent crime, so it's time to make drugs the focus, and that means a LOT of seizures and a lot of graft, and you can't rush that.

In the mean time, you got to have some red meat to throw to the proles to make them excited about their neighbors heading off to the pokey.

A bunch of us were calling this before the election.  ICE agents, like all humans, are inherently lazy and this requires the least amount of work to get results.
It is really bad optics though, saying you are getting the 'bad hombres' and criminals, then going after kids who are trying their hardest to do good in this country.  It surely won't come back to bite them in the ass...

Fine. Give them back any money they've paid in taxes then.

It was a brilliant move by Trump and the Senate to appoint a criminal to be Attorney General. His expertise in breaking the law has no doubt served him well in objectively prosecuting the criminal actions of others.

Family values party is gonna forcibly break up millions of families?

I thought Trump might give Christie the AG gig and I wasn't that happy about it.

That noted, Trump giving the gig to a guy who's name sounds like a character from Django Unchained who is more crook than cop is even more disheartening.

They'll need all of that individual economic liberty when they're shot back to wherever the hell it was they were escaping from in the first place.

There is some question about how well his program to reverse the Civil Rights Movement, and make it as if the Sixties never happened, will be received.
Unless you count Bannon's brief stint on the Security Council as an "appointment", this is Trump's worst appointment - and that is saying a great deal.

The negatives only cancel out if they reference the same thing. Like "I can't not jerk off."

In this case, the first negative relates to a supposed promise whereas the second negative refers to being deported, so headline fail!

First of all, there is no such thing as a "Dreamer" as the DREAM Act was never passed.  Secondly, in the case of this dude that was deported after supposedly having DACA protection, reports came out today that he was never removed from the country prior to being caught sneaking back in.  Because he left on his own, he gave up the protections afforded to him under DACA.

When I was a young man, I was driving home from work late one night when an illegal alien ran a red light and slammed into my car when I was turning left on a green arrow. Ever since, I've suffered back pain and pain from pinched nerves owing to herniated discs. I live with it. But when I read your posts, I'm struck by your anger. I must presume that at some distant time a group of undocumented immigrants captured you and your father and subjected you to gross humiliation, perhaps they enlisted the aid of a few donkeys. Seek help. You need it.

The moment Trump makes a promise, you know it's false.
The moment some punk wannabe troll defends trump's lying shiat, you know he's an lying asshole, too.
Nothing new in this thread.

I have not noticed this. Based on fark threads I'd say it is a minority. But then I try not to base my estimation of trends involving hundreds of thousands of people on a dozen salient newsworthy events.

You must read an incredible number of human interest stories to have a representative sampling.

I was kinda hoping for another solar system altogether but it's a step in the right direction and of course the name fits perfectly.
