What a buffoon.

Along with the Carl Vinson fiasco, I imagine South Korea is feeling pretty farked-over right now.
What a shocking, unforeseeable development.

Who knew Korea could be so complicated?

Damn, I had Comoros.  Oh well, I'll get it next time.

I don't doubt Xi would have said that. I know Korea was a "tributary" to the Ming dynasty, but so technically were some European countries to later Chinese dynasties, in their eyes. It was all about showing respect so you could do business, giving gifts etc. Though in Korea's case it would have been more about giving gifts to be friendly so they don't invade. Of course, the Mongols did, that was the Yuan dynasty. So was Korea part of China, or Mongolia? Neither, obviously, because today's political constructs and terminologies mean little viewed through the historical lens. Several south east Asian kingdoms were tributaries too, which is why in Chinese eyes bits of islands in seas far away are very much part of their territories.

But that's why we should elect people who have a fark of an idea what they're doing and talking about, so when they hear one nations leader spout this shiat you say "yes, yes, lovely", then go back and say "get a load of this guy!" not "Hey, I just learned that Korea was part of China, did you know that? Do the Koreans? Let's tell them".

I am shocked a reality TV character and money-losing casino operator is poorly versed in geopolitical history.

But you liberals always keep on hating. But have you heard the President insult Luxembourg or Paraguay yet? No, so STFU.

Of all the people's to offend though. Korea is very sensitive over it's history with China and Japan. Like calling an Irish person English, only 100 times worse.

Why is he allowed to speak or tweet? Can't we get a gag order passed in Congress?

He's going through the countries alphabetically, well trump alphabetically.
Did anyone else notice that the alphabet was hard?

ecmoRandomNumbers: Why is he allowed to speak or tweet? Can't we get a gag order passed in Congress?

Oh hell no. His tweets are the only silver lining of this shiatstorm. Also the likeliest thing to bring him down, so please, hand him more phones, and give him more time to tweet his deep thoughts.

Well, that's what Xi said.

Korea is hard.

2017-04-20 09:38:57 AM
Trump has to create a lot of chaos and noise to distract people from the fact that he and the Republicans aren't actually getting anything done at all.

They've rigged the whole system from top to bottom, stacking everything in their favor, and they still can't accomplish a dang thing because they only thing they actually agree on is that they should stay in power.

2017-04-20 09:41:18 AM
Next, we'll here Trump referring to Xi Jinping as 'Eleven Jinping'

2017-04-20 09:41:27 AM
Of course Korea wasn't part of China. Why do you think China built that huge wall? To keep all the Koreans from coming in and raping their jobs. Originally China was going to make Korea pay for that wall, but it never quite worked out.

2017-04-20 09:41:35 AM
It should be amusing to watch Spicer walk this back.
"What he meant to say is that Korea is a historical territory of Japan.  There,  no one can get upset about that. "

2017-04-20 09:41:54 AM
"They're all slanty eyed and look the same" is what he totally didn't mean.

2017-04-20 09:44:07 AM
Just for the lulz, I'd love to see either Xi or Putin recognize the Confederacy.

2017-04-20 09:44:10 AM
Can you blame the Koreans on this one?  Mr. Trump said the best StarCraft player of all-time is Jaedong.  Any idiot knows that it's Flash.

2017-04-20 09:45:24 AM
Yet another DNRTFA thread. So quoting what someone else said (XI in this case) is not saying it your self?
"with Trump saying about Xi: "He then went into the history of China and Korea. Not North Korea, Korea. And you know, you're talking about thousands of years ... and many wars. And Korea actually used to be a part of China."
But dont let reading get in the way of your hate.

FTA:

The claims are complicated by the fact it's unclear whether President Trump was quoting the Chinese president verbatim, quoting his interpreter or simply paraphrasing.

No, they're not. "Repeating something someone else said" was never a viable excuse for any previous president, why in the f*ck are we even suggesting it's okay with this one?

I'm glad Republican voters are getting the "shake-up in DC" that they wanted, assuming the shake-up they wanted means "losing all goodwill toward the U.S. by our global allies."

Trump says China's opinion is that Korea is part of China.

Korea is angry at Trump for this.

Isn't that misplaced blame?

You mean people are outraged that a narcissistic sociopath with zero political experience said something stupid?  Honestly, we should just put out a blanket apology to the world for electing this incompetent piece of shiat.

All you idiots who voted for this monster can go fark yourselves.  Hard.  I have no idea how we as a country are going to recover any type of credibility after he's out of office.

FTFA- Trump said "He then went into the history of China and Korea. Not North Korea, Korea. And you know, you're talking about thousands of years... and many wars. And Korea actually used to be a part of China."

also FTFA- "Whether that is true or not, Korea hasn't been a part of China for thousands of years and it is an historical fact that the international community acknowledges and no one can deny it," a foreign ministry official said.

I'm sure Xi's in a big hurry to recognize a nation that saw non-whites as sub-human and fodder for slave labor.

Well, that's it. Now I'm seriously on the fence about voting for Donald Trump.

2017-04-20 09:52:14 AM

Joe Blowme: And Korea actually used to be a part of China.

Except that no matter who said it, that part there isn't true.

A couple of millenia ago, part of what is now North Korea was the Lelang Commandery of the Han Empire.  That's as close to a territorial possession of Korea as China has ever had.  The southern and eastern parts of the peninsula have NEVER been ruled by a Chinese ruler.  They paid tribute to the Emperor and accepted his nominal superiority to their King, but they never under his command or compulsion.

I think we can all claim that lrize regardless. Trump is approaching a near hyper quantum state of offensiveness where he simultaneously offends not just all countries all the time but also in every way imageinable, and some that are beyond imagination, across the entire timeline and across all possible parallel realities, even in the ones where he doesn't exist.

Somewhere, in a universe a long way across reality, there's a eight legged winged pig-like creature sitting in its Presidential office feeling a deep sense of offense for reasons it can't describe.

It's an extra dimension that needs to be added to String theory, denoted by a goatse emoji.

Quite a non story. No doubt Trump is a warthog faced buffoon, but this really is nothing. How do you say "lighten up Francis" in Korean?

Next, mention that Korea used to be part of Japan.

Cool story overheard
Old AF Guy:  I was stationed in Japan and they had a civilian contractor win a base award.  His prize was a ride in a AF plane.  Just a check ride.  Well, they put him on the wrong plane.  Instead of flying around and landing back at the base, this plane went to Korea.  Can you imagine what the Koreans did to a Japanese national arriving in their country without documentation/passport? They held him for 24 hours, threatened him with everything except a hangin' before they let him go.  He came back but he never won another base award."

That explains SO much about your posting history.
