Fossilizing quite nicely I see. Good for him.

Remind me. In GOP  land, exercising your right to hate speech is considered free speech. But protesting hate speech is considered bad/blocking free speech/whatever word salad of the day is popular with Breitbart.

Luckily I live in the real world. Where there are actually good people. And if it takes a little protesting to shut down hate mongers then so be it. And if said hate mongers incite violence by trying to spread their hateful message, that's also fine. Sometimes people need to be reminded that their hate isn't as popular as they think it is.

Rawstory! OMG.... Don't click on it! Don't click on it! Browser purity... and stuff...

I clicked on it.

FTA:
Another conservative nonprofit, Young America's Foundation, also establishes student chapters at numerous universities and sends bigoted scholars and lecturers including Ann Coulter, David Horowitz and Ted Nugent to speak at their campus events free of charge.

It's nice to see the word "bigoted" being bandied about like that. Let's you know it's time to stop reading right there. Incidentally, to do so would actually be an example of being bigoted. So, I'm going to plow right on. Because I try to not be bigoted.

Ahh, continuing to read paid off... with this gem:

The Roosevelt Institute, a progressive, nonpartisan think tank based in Washington, D.C....

Of course. Progressive? How could it possible be partisan. Why, the very thought! I'm glad the author thoughtfully added that distinction.

So, just out of curiosity... Is there a white list (so to speak) of approved conservative speakers?

If you want to destroy the monster, ask it why it hates what it hates. Peek behind the scary mask and see what's there. You do that by inviting them to speak, and asking them questions. Then you can see how fragile their arguments are and how stupid their hate is.

Then, everyone learns something.

Bollox to that. Engaging with people who spout hatred towards minorities, towards other religions, towards anyone different to them, is essentially saying that hatred and discrimination is a conversation worth having.

Or, don't give the attendees the satisfaction of protested. I'd love to see, rather than a protest, liberals hold their own event on the same night.

I feel like a sparsely filled auditorium watching some has-been talk sh*t about people is more deflating when everyone else is off having fun.

You want to let people defend why its ok to hate and discriminate against black people, why its ok to hate and discriminate against gay people, against Muslims, against Jews, against immigrants.

No. Just no. Take your hate, your spite, your fear, your insecurities, and get the fark out of civilized society. Go back to the cave you crawled out of. You think the civilized world owes you a platform for those ideas. Hell no.

Hate speech is NOT free speech. If you don't agree with that, then I can't help you.

Just for the record, I have nothing to learn from someone who preaches that gays are evil and that blacks are inferior. But tell me, what do you have to learn from that kind of rhetoric.

Stopped reading at:

Labeled a white nationalist by the Southern Poverty Law Center, Murray is the author of the 1994 book The Bell Curve, in which he argues that inequalities of race, gender and income exist because white men are smarter and genetically superior to black people, Latinos, women and the poor.

Charles Murray should be about as controversial as milquetoast.  The SPLC is wildly offbase in their characterization of him and Bell Curve.

The real way to stop this crap is to have these speakers show up to an empty auditorium. Unfortunately, there is always an eager audience for hate.

Nobody is trying to stop them from speaking, there's people that don't want to facilitate their speach and subsidize an elevated platform for them to give their hate speech from. The kochs could build a volkshalle and have all the speakers they want without a problem.

Oh bullshiat.  That sounds nice, but it's nonsense.  I ignored a million angry street preachers every day at school.  It wasn't because I was bigoted, it was because they all say the same thing (gays are going to hell, you're going to hell if you don't help me kill all the gays, etc.) and I'm not buying any of it.

And no one's free speech is being violated if they aren't being threatened with arrest.  The hatemongering dickholes who generally earn the ire of civilized human beings are being told that they aren't welcome and to fark themsleves.  That's not the same thing as the government throwing someone in jail. You can believe something is racist, wholly without merit, and unworthy of being subsidized by your tuition by being shown on your campus without being frightened of it.

If College Republicans want to have the racists and Ann Coulters of the world come to speak at their events, they can rent out the local VFW hall.

I live in a college town and have never seen this.  The people screaming about religion on campus always seem to be the evangelical Christian groups.  Usually it's about abortion with pictures of aborted fetuses, people going to hell if they don't accept their interpretation of the Bible,  or how the school shouldn't allow gay student groups to exist on campus.

The point of this bullshiat is to incite and create headlines about "intolerant and violent" liberals ( and boy do the black bloc morons love to ablige...)

Hardly surprising from an author oblivious to the 'what' or 'why' of free speech. These idiots don't understand they're playing directly into fringe authoritarian hands by insisting on mechanisms for constraining speech. Any hope the frightening power transfer from Obama to Trump had some formative influence on their groomed, simple and dualistic world view is shattered once again.
