Completely failing to stop a deadly weapon. Sounds pretty standard for TSA.

No you can't bring nail clippers in here. Don't you know what you could do with those.

That looks like a drop gun to me. I don't doubt she forgot she had it on her. biatch.

2017-04-20 05:26:43 AM
Personal weapons aren't allowed in Taiwan so she shouldn't have had it with her at all, let alone in carry on luggage. Assuming she wan't there on official bidness (dnrtfa)

One more example of how there are different rules for police (in the U.S.). Taiwan May actually treat her like the rest of us.

2017-04-20 05:54:21 AM
Good on her for not dropping her drop gun into the carryon of another passenger at least.

2017-04-20 06:00:30 AM
So the TSA were somewhat lax on this occasion?

She should have just placed it in a garbage can and bought a new one when she returns to the U.S.

If you are Thai or a longterm local resident. You can't bring your gun into Thailand as a tourist, nor can you buy one as a tourist.

This is for the re-make with all female cast, no?

Wasn't there something in the news where the TSA missed 95% of the banned items in a test?

Was she re-accommodated (according to standard operating procedure)?

Yeah but no bottles of water got through, or nail clippers, right?  And what about muslim-looking people wearing funny clothes and not speaking 'merican every second during the flight?

If it's a duty weapon, she'd then have to explain to her employer how she lost it. Hopefully, the Santa Monica PD would take that somewhat seriously.

Are we losing comment here?

I absolutely despise the USoA's TSA!!!  They are a disgusting organisation that creates more hate then they ever could stop.  I would have a lot more respect for them if they actually acted like actors in a play, rather than pretending to be useful.....

Was she on United? They only beat passengers who won't relinquish seats, not firearms.

Purse gun left in purse. Stupid oversight by all parties, but she seems to have at least realized it and did the righr thing.

When asked if anyone would be disciplined, he said, "we'll hold those responsible appropriately accountable."

If they can't answer a yes or no question with a yes or no, then the answer is "we won't but we won't admit it either." This is my shocked face.

2017-04-20 07:39:53 AM
I guess I just don't get how this happens.

Maybe it's partly imprecision in language. To me, a carry-on is something I pack specifically for travel, in which case it's hard for me to see how she could have forgotten that she put it in there. If she actually had the gun and bullets in her "personal item," i.e., handbag, I can see how she might carry a weapon in there out of habit, but still...

If you're forgetting that you're carrying a weapon in your handbag, what's the purpose of carrying it?

And if you're at all mindful of what you're carrying, what would possess you to carry a weapon internationally?

The commissioner told her to escort Jackie Chan back to Taiwan.  But then Jackie saw the drug dealer's accomplice at the airport and did one of those parkour chases through the airport.  She couldn't keep up.

Flash the badge at the TSA checkpoint

I wonder if my Air Force Security Police badge would do that?

Fire her and never let her own a weapon again.

Article is idiotic.  Local police don't get special treatment especially at the international terminal where ICE restricts even the on-duty uniformed police that work the rest of the airport.  She forgot her gun and if the TSA wasn't asleep, she'd be paying a $5,000 fine.  Quite a few police officers have paid it.

TSA are not police and have no powers of arrest.  They need to be scrapped and return to private security.  Saves taxpayers billions with no reduction in security.  The risk airplanes is outside the cabin.  Harrison Ford proved that a couple months ago.

It's laughable.  The stupid goes even deeper:

FTA:"If the oversight was made due to negligence of a security officer, that's also a concern and raises the question of whether TSA should increase the number of security officers at the airport, he said."

FFS, that's a professor saying that.  How in the hell is adding more TSA people going to help when one at a metal detector passes someone with a gun?

Been a while since I've flown, but I don't think carry-ons go through the metal detector. They get x-rayed and hand searched.

As someone pointed out upthread, the TSA lets something like 95% of contraband through. So the first guy in every line catches 5%, and then you have a second guy to catch 5% of the 95% the first guy left, and a third guy to catch 5% of the 90.25% left after the second guy, and so on. Just have at least 20 TSA officers screen every passenger, and they'll keep most contraband and all water bottles and nail clippers off flights, employment will skyrocket, and passengers will only have to arrive at the airport, on average, 8 hours early to have time to make their flight.

No badge other that Airport security and possibly State Police is getting you past a TSA checkpoint. That Ruger is definitely not a service weapon so it just comes down to a stupid TSA agent didn't see it.

Lydia_C: you're forgetting that you're carrying a weapon in your handbag, what's the purpose of carrying it?

Because if you carry it everyday it becomes like your wallet or your watch, just a normal thing to have.

FTFA: "We know that she left out of here - out of LAX - arrived in Taiwan, at which point she notified officials in Taiwan that she inadvertently left a weapon in her bag, being the gun that was found," Rodriguez said.

I cannot wrap my head around this.  Was she being re-screened in Taiwan for some reason, and then the gun was found?  Or did she find it herself, then decide to self report?

In either case, I don't get it.

/Then again, I was surprised to find direct flights from LAX to Taipei, albeit not US based carriers do this, which has been my experience.

To be fair. Needless wars are/were a bigger waste.
With the difference being that TSA salaries are for a blue collar bunch that spend the money and therefore keep it circulating.
Money into defence contractor pockets tends to pile up.

Well, you can't expect them to screen everyone.  I mean, when it takes 2 full minutes to pat down a child. some things are bound to fall through the cracks.

Suuuuuuuuure you will.

You've just snuck an illegal firearm into a foreign country by accident and haven't been caught.

Do you:
A.) Drop that shiat in a garbage bin and pretend it never happened.
B.) Just continue on to your destination and keep your mouth shut.
C.) Turn yourself in as a criminal to a government and legal system you know nothing about.
