I don't even know some of these songs...and I'm old.
And out of all the ELO songs they pick "Mr. Blue Sky?"
I'm a big ELO fan, used to buy their 45's as a kid, saw Xanadu in the (empty) theater....at age 13, got the Xanadu soundtrack album, and I've never even heard of that song.

Cheap Trick, ELO, Fleetwood Mac, George Harrison, Yusuf....yeah, that's pretty awesome.

I would have liked to have seen Wild World or maybe Peace Train instead of Father and Son but I know why they picked that one.

My first "Awesome Mix" was like 1981 and it was all ELO.  Mr. Blue Sky has always been my favorite.

This is a good track list for people who say they're tired of classic rock.

(Because what they're generally tired of is the same dozen songs over and over.)

I was pretty young in the 70's, but I definitely remember that one getting lots of air time.

Bring it on home to me

Funny that all of a sudden all of the videos of "Bring it on home to me" have been taken down.  Someone getting greedy.

Swear to god, every third farking song on the local classic rock station was either Foreigner or Bob Seger.

It's quite possibly the happiest song ever made.

I can't speak for everyone but it's a song that I can't listen to without smiling

picking Mr.Bluesky is such a lame choice. its a great song and all... but its an odd choice in the context of the film...given that only direhard ELO fans had even heard the song until Volkswagen chose it for a commercial in 2003....since then it was used in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind in 2004...and litterally dozens and dozens of TV commercials since then. for farks sake it was even used in Paul Blart MAll Cop.

it's the "WHIP IT" of the ELO catalog. not a bad song...but really uninpsired.

I'd have gone with Twilight, or Don't Bring me Down.

outhern Nights was a serious crossover hit. I remember it on the wireless, back before we had the victrola for playing those expensive 78RPM shellac discs.

And a way to troll the Academy by having David Hasselhoff perform on the Oscar stage.

I have a complicated relationship with ELO. I went to a concert to see the opening act at the Music Hall (or Sam Houston Collesium?)  in downtown Houston 1975. The band I came to see was a Euro keyboard heavy outfit (I was in my late 70s hipster wanna be phase) called Triumvirat and when the keyboardist came on stage after some delay, he decided the large radio antennas atop nearby buildings interfered with their synthesizers. (The roadie walked on stage, hit a note, and sure enough, it would go off key- I found this was the reason later) and they bailed. Did not play.

Later, ELO played, and I swear I had maybe heard one of their songs once before?
Well, I was suitably blown away. Great live performance. This song was NOT one of those. (Mr Blue Sky came out in '78) But they did play the Eldorado album. I got chills. I may have been high at the time, but still ... chills.

ELO gets a permanent pass in my book.

Meh.... The first soundtrack was awesome, the only song I didn't like was Cherry Bomb. This one not so much. The Fleetwood Mack song is one of the greats, the ELO song is an OK one... Other than that, while I like many of the artists IMHO those songs are not among their good ones.

Still super-excited for the movie though.

Overall song list review isn't really appropriate here.  Gunn isn't worried about selling albums here, he's fairly adepts at setting music to the movie without getting too deep into cliches (I'm looking at you DC universe and "come together").  Half these songs are really strong on their own, a few others I see as situationally strong. The others make me wonder what they have planned. Nobody includes Parliament  unless they have weird tastes, vision, or a combination of the two. Vol 1 didn't sell me on the soundtrack as a product, but it enhanced the hell out of the first movie, I hope this does the same.

look... I love the song...but get real.  Cheap Trick is a guitar/drum driven band that is best heard live...so you pick a song of theirs from the only period where they bothered including keyboards...and like I said...good song...but not CHEAP TRICKs "best".

for that...I'd be more inclined to go with any live version of Speak Now or Forever Hold your Peace (leading with Tom Peterson on a 12 string bass...which btw...he invented.)
