With the way the World seems to be headed, I'm a little torn as to which side to root for here.

Good thing Trump wants to cut the CDC's budget. I mean what have those lazy government leaches ever done for real Americans?

Malaria. Ringworm. Yellowjack.

If the South want to be stupid bastards, let them have their microbiological heritage back.

Minus the slaves, of course. There is a reason why it is conventional wisdom that a black in the North is smarter than a white in the South. MAlaria, Ringworm and Yellowjack are three reasons. I can think of plenty more, but these three should be common knowledge and they spell a nice acronym:  MARY.

Oh, and typhoid.

Good on the Gates, Buffet, even the Clintons and Jimmy Carter for their work with tropical disease cures and prevention. These are people who are truly Making America Great Again, not just talking patriotic pap and betraying their own supporters as much or more than the ideals of American justice, political freedom, and society.

Carter deserves special mention for helping to wipe out Guinea Worm (it will soon follow smallpox into history, almost certainly) but they have all spent a lot of time, effort and money helping people who are NOT sufficiently profitable for the Pharma Bros of the world to help or the water companies of the world (notably France) to supply with safe clean drinking water affordably.

And it is very timely with Chagas, West Nile Virus and many other tropical disease on the march into former or future empires in the US, Europe and other developed countries.

By helping other people, you invariably help yourself not only to be better people, but more secure and happy. By building walls, you help no one except cement and steel companies, and quess what? They are mostly gone to India, China, Mexico and other low cost, low regulation, low environmental protection countries.

Trump will have to build his damn wall with Mexican cement and Chinese or Indian steel even if the Mexicans are not fools or cowards enough to pay for it.

Those jobs are not coming back unless low wages and rotten health, safety, and environmental legislation come back. I don't think Trump can do enough evil to produce a permanent and enormous movement to Make America Suck Again. Even Republicans have their GD limits when it comes to shiatting in the bed where they or their grandchildren sleep. At least the smart Republicans do.

Why did you say that "a black in the north is smarter than a white in the south"? To me it seems like you're saying blacks aren't ordinarily as smart as white people living in the same region. I really hope that's not your way of thinking.

Anyway, I'm glad that so much progress has been made against the mentioned diseases. Guinea worm sounds like a farking nightmare. My question is: Have they basically eradicated the worm permanently, or are people in the affected areas just going to have to filter their water forever, and the dumb ones will still get worms? I read a while back that dogs can also be hosts to the miserable parasites, and you're not apt to train every dog in the land to avoid contact with bodies of water, in a place where even the people don't all drink clean water.
