They would have put wind turbines on the hill tops but there gone.

We just secured a deal where china will buy it's coal from the US rather than Best Korea.

Coal has it's place and it's supposedly a sun setting industry, but it has it's place.

My thoughts too.

"There's no reason that shouldn't continue; we just need to make sure we have an all-of-the-above energy approach, and I think incorporating solar and training and some of the best and brightest and hardest-working people you'll ever find into a next generation industry is really a profound opportunity."

Solar plants are automated.  Even construction of the plant won't bring in many jobs to the area, since they have to be installed by people trained in the process, which means nobody in the area is going to have the experience necessary.  No, projects on this scale won't wait for some local construction company to train up - they'll just hire a major company with the best bid, which will be an existing solar corp.  Y'all got played again, Derptucky.  MAGA indeed.

Nice silicon farm you got there. Just wait for it to ripen before harvesting it.

Well, I mean, even the vaunted Keystone Pipeline will only have 35 full time employees working on it when it's complete.  The big lie of Trump claiming he can bring these jobs back is that those jobs are gone.  Even if the coal industry did boom again, you need far fewer miners to work those mines than you did back in the Good Ol' Days.

I thought what I had been seeing out on 67 east of Alpine was construction for an oil pipeline. Turns out its a massive field of Solar Panels. Pleasantly surprised.

Yeah, in the skies of Beijing and the lungs of its residents.

It will take thousands of years for the strip mined land to regain any value.

Screw coal, we need to bring back all the candlemaking jerbs we've lost over the last century! Down with electricity! Up with paraffin!

Benjamin Franklin was a huxster and a fraud. Capturing electricity in a jar? Helping to implement Daylight Savings?! Boo!

That seems highly impractical.  It's best to build your power plant/steel mill near where the coal already is, so you don't have to transport it far.

How can getting it across the Pacific be remotely economical?

If we just called it solar mining, could we stop freaking out about it?
