Emphasis on "shiathole".

You know the problem at the Coliseum is bad when the sewage has its own parody Twitter account.

Yeah, 'cause REAL fans show loyalty to organizations that dont care whatsoever about them.

Right? Because we all know REAL fans show loyalty by finally ponying up public money for a new stadium after the franchise moves its headquarters to Los Angeles?

Difficulty: Seahawks Edition

Hope he enjoys playing 16 14 road games a year after the move.  Vegas will be worse than Southern California for destination fans.

I do have to point out that in fairness, the Raiders left once before and after Vegas fails, they'll probably go back to Oakland.

So it's a little different than other teams.

Still stupid and clowny to say, but that's the America we live in. "If you REALLY love us, you'll rape yourselves with broomsticks." And 30% of America will say "So long as we win, I'm A-OK with this!"

You're aware that I like the Seahawks now specifically because they have players I like, and I will stop supporting them when they do not, right?

At least Paul Allen, when he bought the team (solely because the state voted for it), didnt spend the next eternity running a crappy team like the Mariners.

Kornchex: Vegas will be worse than Southern California for destination fans.

The Raiders have a pretty strong fan base in Vegas already, and I expect that to increase once they move here. But you're right about this being a good city for destination fans. While that might not be what you want as a football player (the stadium half-full of your fans and half-full of the opponent's fans), but it's good for the city. We love to bring tourists to town, put them up in our hotels, feed them at our restaurants and let them shop at our stores.

I wouldn't be surprised if we see an Oakland lawsuit against the NFL like St. Louis is doing. I think St. Louis has a stronger case, though.

Total bullshiat man.  They are just not going to play in your town.  I moved away from  my team, it's not like they stopped letting me watch.  The Raiders are moving away because they don't like suiting up in locker rooms full of POOP and nobody was going to fix up the Colosseum (rightly so that's an economic drain that doesn't help anyone).

Moving is the right pick for the team.

Ownership can't build the venue themselves because they're like the  poorest owners in the league, and unlike just about everyone else who demands one the Raiders actually NEED a better venue or at least one that isn't a biohazard.

Oakland isn't going to pay and shouldn't.

The solution is they move.  Sorry.  This is what's best for the team while not doing harm to the fanbase.  If you like them you can like them on TV cheaper.

If you're mad well... they're gone, they're not hurting you either way, certainly nobody is being asked to rape themselves with a broom you friggin crazy person.

Someone needs to remind him which city they will be playing in next season.

2017-04-18 11:09:22 AM
People are fans of the team that represents their home town. That team leaving is a betrayal. It makes that team not yours any more. For example, I used to follow the San Diego Chargers because I was born there, but the L.A. Chargers can die in a fire. I will cheer for the Patriots first, even though I hate cheaters.

It's a business decision. Not saying it doesn't make sense for the Raiders.

But it's a reminder that the team doesn't care about you, or the first name on the team. They care about their business and their business only.

If you root for them when they leave, you're a sucker. You don't have a bond with them. They dont know you. They don't care about you. Your love is unrequited.

You're not less of a fan if you assess your relationship, realize that the team is not the team you loved, and you stop rooting for them. You're just sane.

As I said, it's similar to other things. Like politics. People are so invested in "their" party "winning" that they don't even notice it doesn't represent their interests at all.

And if that party told them that f*cking themselves with broomsticks would ensure a win, 30% of America would do it, and be PROUD that they did it.

IAmRight: But it's a reminder that the team doesn't care about you, or the first name on the team. They care about their business and their business only.

That's based on the premise that they don't care about you because they decide to move the city they play out of.  Your mileage is going to vary on that one.  For me if my team moved... well I don't even live there, I don't care.  And if I agreed they probably SHOULD move (and i think if you're a Raiders fan you get that even if you're one of the ones who doesn't like it) I can't imagine being crazy upset with them.

IAmRight: If you root for them when they leave, you're a sucker

Seriously, why?  What's the big deal about them not playing in the right stadium anymore?  What makes you a sucker for still liking and watching a team you used to like and watch?  It's not like they STOLE something from you by being unable to continue playing in a sewage flooded stadium.

IAmRight: You don't have a bond with them.

Except your decades of fandom.  Maybe they have less of a bond with you but that "bond" was always basically 1 sided, it isn't like the Raiders were all sorry when you got sick or whatever.

IAmRight: They dont know you.

I guarantee they didn't KNOW you when they were there

IAmRight: You're not less of a fan if you assess your relationship, realize that the team is not the team you loved, and you stop rooting for them. You're just sane.

I feel like this has little or nothing to do with what place they play out of but your mileage again will vary.  For me, if the Ravens moved well... okay they moved.  It's not like I stayed in Baltimore to pursue our "mutual bond."  If I started hating their play-calling and felt like they were boring to watch for a couple of season that might make me reassess if I root for them, but I couldn't give 2 shiats about where their home stadium is.

In 20 years Oakland is going to be as desirable a place to live as SF. The ghettos will be well on their way to being completely gentrified out of existence. By that point building a stadium will require something like 5 billion dollars. Why you would trade a decent tract of land in one of the most desirable metros in the US for freaking Vegas is beyond me.

1. Nope. They never cared. Them moving is just an obvious reminder that they didn't - that final step that finally gets it through your skull.

2. Okay, if you still like the team for other reasons, like the players, then fine. But most people dont root for teams because of players, as I've been told often for being one of the few that does (and being called not a REAL fan because of it). If you rooted for them because they played in your city at one point and still root for them now that they don't, THEN you're a sucker.

3. Agreed, the relationship was always one-sided. So figure that out and don't be a clown. Stop loving corporations. It's embarrassing.

4. F*ckboy Carr says that REAL fans will still root for his team even though the team is leaving. So that was a response to that. Only idiots give the "you're not a REAL fan" argument, just like garbage Americans say "you're not a REAL American."

Lots of people root for teams because they're the local team. If you are no longer the local team, why should the root for you? You're just a random out-of-state corporation. There's no reason anyone should be loyal to you.

Good on the Raiders' owners for getting more money, but no one ought to expect anyone from Oakland to support them.

If you're a Raiders fan and you dont care where they're located, then fine. Just don't chastise anyone about being a REAL fan.

It's a Ravens fan who doesn't recognize that Mayflower vans still trigger most of the Baltimore citizens over 40 and that it took stealing another team to soothe the pain of Irsay moving the Colt.  Plus, they essentially said "if they suck for two years I'll reevaluate my fandom".

They appear both lack any sort of passion for the team or compassion for the fans, so your argument was wasted on a malleable lump of crab meat.

HotWingConspiracy: They were Oakland Raiders fans.

I was one of those, until they went Hollywood.  Hell, they lost their so called 'mystique' when they moved the 1st time. Now I'm not old enough but I've heard tales of the pre-move Raiders staying up Saturdays in the local taverns and playing on Sundays.

The team used to have one of the highest winning % in all of sports, some of the decline is due to the decline of Al in his end days but I remember a time when Oakland playing on Monday Night Football was an automatic win.  Now they barely qualify as good enough for a MNF or now SNF game.

The move makes sense. Vegas has been cheering for the Raiders to lose for decades.

Unscientific poll:

Two friends of mine (So Cal natives) are Raiders fans, and don't mind the move at all.  One of them lives up here (Seattle), and has season tickets...so he would actually fly down to Oakland for each home game.  He's looking forward to making those trips to Vegas instead.

Speaking as a former Sonics fan, at least the Raiders fans don't have it as bad as we do:

1) The team is keeping the name.
2) Las Vegas is kind of an extension of Southern California....with a lot of people driving out there for the weekend.
3) The team is moving to a fun destination.

Based on history and the lack of a clear alternative (Niners don't seem like much of a popular choice) I am betting most Raiders fans will fall into line.
