They're built to take a pounding.  A guy I knew in high school got airborne and cut a telephone pole in half.  Happened right in front of my house.  He landed in the pasture next door.  All he got was a broken leg.  [CSB]Bob Eubanks pulled him out of the wreck[/CSB].

Now you got me on a disadvantage.  I know the crash has been making it's way around town, so I don't know how many people have seen that pic.  I've also been receiving pics of the scene from friends who were there, or got them from other friends.  I find it surprising since that intersection sees a lot of crashes, but I guess it isn't often someone tosses a 3 ton truck around like that kid did.  He had to be speeding.

Well, let's just say that he damaged it first, then wrecked it second. I don't think his insurance company is going to care what word is used, he is still screwed.
PLEASE DON'T TEXT, DRINK, READ A BOOK, PUT ON MAKEUP, EAT A MESSY SANDWICH, LOOK FOR LOOSE CHANGE, CHANGE YOUR CLOTHES, OR BE AN IDIOT WHILE DRIVING. There is enough time for that when you are outside of the car!

Haters notwithstanding, in the Corvette you get a world-class car that is competitive with foreign offerings costing 3X more or even higher, you get it with excellent fuel economy and low emissions, and you get a standard GM warranty, even with the 650 hp Z06.

But even the most vanilla Corvette these days is an ultra high-performance car, and ham-fisted impaired driving will get you in trouble in a heartbeat.

While not the rule, this is pretty common behavior for drunk drivers based on local news reports.

If you have a low end insurance policy you really want to spread the damage out so you can collect the per-occurrence policy limits for each little accident. If you blow everything on one spectacular wreck you run out of coverage too soon.

Yes, but it lacks some of the features of the finer European brands.  For example, the pre-lit CHECK ENGINE lights and the massaging seats that allow you to wait for the tow truck in comfort.

Really, that's your citation?  A list where times are submitted by the people running them, no official manner or rules on how the times are taken?  It even mentions a magazine estimated the time for the Ford GT.  They didn't even bother with a stop watch.  And what I know about GM, those test runs weren't stock off the showroom floor models.  Those were staged for PR reasons.  Seriously, 'test run' is GM speak for 'we used a engine set up you can't buy.'

And the very little feedback from the car makes hamfisted driving so much easier.

But if you really want to see idiot drivers, google mustang youtubes (corvettes are priced high enough to be the province of balding old men, who typically have learned to handle their [declining] testosterone.  Not so much the mustang drivers).

Some lines of Mustangs are truly great cars at a great price too.  But you know the difference between a pony car (mostly looks), a sports sedan (great power, handling and brakes), and a sports car (track-ready right off the showroom, but with license plates insurance, and warranty).  All Corvettes from 1953 fell into the latter category, although some would argue about the C1 (1953-1962) but even that car raced successfully against contemporary cars like the Jaguar XK120, even with it's very heavy 235 cid four-main-bearing pushrod six cylinder 155 hp engine and powerglide transmission (1953-1955).

Yes, the Ford GT is a great car too, as is the Bugatti Veyron.  The 455 hp Corvette Sting Ray starts at under $56K.  The 460 hp GrandSport starts at under $67K.  The 650 hp Corvette Z06 starts at under $80K.  All have suspension, transmission, brakes, and interior focused on their intended use (mostly road use, normally aspirated world class road and track, and boosted world class road and track) and this is a track that completes a circuit.  The world is full of great cars, and this is a wonderful time for performance cars.  A competitive track-prepared Mustang or Camaro will necessarily be a chassis-off rebuild but a Corvette already has the pieces there for most track use right from the factory.

[presumably this has been fixed and the stop-sales is over.  But there were certainly *severe* heat issues with supercharged LT4s].
I'm not sure why you replied to me.  My issue was mostly with the drivers, not the cars (although I still don't think I'd try to learn track driving in a vette, maybe a mustang but more likely a a86 (I'm too big for a miata)).

The "pony car" designation could mean a lot of things.  Another meaning is a lightweight musclecar (i.e. traditionally a mustang or camaro with a V8 [the V8 [and above] Challenger is a muscle car].  Although I suspect they corner a little too well (if driven properly) to not have been called sports cars for at least a decade.
