I'm not being racist or anything, I'm being specific.

Well, that's a new twist.  At least to me.

For some reason, I don't know why, I'm reminded of an old, slightly racist joke.

A Chinese tourist arrives in America for the first time. Having only Chinese currency on him, he goes to a bank and asks to exchange it for US dollars.

He hands over 1000 Yuan, and receives $150 in return. Happy with the exchange, he goes sightseeing. But the US is more expensive than he thought, and the next day he realizes he needs more cash. So he goes back to the bank, and again he receives $150 in return for 1000 Yuan. And again, he goes out and enjoys what the US has to offer. But once again, he runs out of cash.

So he goes back to the bank, hands over his 1000 Yuan, but today he only gets back $140. So he asks the clerk "Why do I only get $140 for 1000 Yuan today?" And the clerk replies, "Fluctuations."

So he shouts back "Fluck you too, Yankees!"

I wouldn't say that this is racist so much as plain ignorance on his part.

If you/your dog isn't Chinese it is ok to dump on his lawn? Sounds like a great place to label on Yahoogle maps as a dog park.

Barely hits meh on the outrage meter.

molehill, meet fictitious mountain. sadly, i believe he is dumb enough to really think he was being specific about neighbors and not calling out all chinese people. and i can believe that in this cultural climate any random bystander would easily conflate this as a racist incident and rush to social media with it. this is just American society now. and the only thing of any value from it is the clicks the advertisers get for 'sharing' it with you.

Chuck87: Since when is the word "Chinese" considered racist?

It's not the word that is racist. It is the targeting of an identifiable group of people. It is not like all of the dogs on this Rube's lawn are "Chinese".

On the other hand, the Chinese (and by extension other Asians) are not idiots. They might be targeting the foolish old cracker's lawn. Remember the Simpsons episode where Reverend Lovejoy encourages his dog to do its business on Flanders lawn. That was clearly intentional.

Perhaps there is a Philipino conspiracy to have dogs do their business on the lawns of crazy old men who yell at clouds.

Not impossible. But you should not prejudge the actions or motives of people who are nothing but a name or a tag to you.

Let me just say this. If Asians want to curb their dogs, they have as much right as anybody else. If I were there, I might rent a dog myself. I assume you can rent dogs. I have never had any balls that needed chasing and have given the job to cats whenever necessary. If you throw a ball outdoors, you never know where it is going to roll. Throw one indoors, it always rolls somewhere that only a cat can reach.

When its used by a person to assume someone else's ethnicity because 'all East Asians look alike to him.'  See, the meaning of specific words can be discerned from this thing called "context."

I have some Filipino friends who don't want to be called Asian, and other Filipino friends who demand to be called Asian.

But, i think safe to say, none of them want to be called Chinese.

Everyone that's been in China knows you have to walk the dog twice a day to get that nice sinuous texture.

/if you're reading this and you're from Eastern Asia, don't be mad at me. Stereotypes exist for a reason. We didn't hold a vote and decide that you eat dogs and cats. You labeled yourselves that way.

You don't HAVE to rent dogs. People will PAY you to walk them. Like, $20 per dog per hour. You can walk 6 or 8 at a time, and then it's real money.
