There are probably more pointless things to get upset about than MLB power rankings in mid-April, but I'm having a hard time thinking of one right now.

These are as pointless as Batting Averages or ERAs in April. Let's get to June before we ... who am I kidding? They'll rank these teams right now for 2018 if properly bored.

What the hell happened to you ESPN?  You used to be cool.

Really? The Pirates dropping five spots after sweeping the defending champs? Slow start for the week for them but they probably will turn it around now.

Anything that violates The Unwritten Rules?

Dead last in the NL standings, and 2nd to last in all MLB?  Time for a thorough and vigorous housecleaning in St. Louis.  Matheny and Mozeliak need to be fired in the most urgent way ASAP.

Orioles have the best record in baseball. I don't think I've ever been able to type that before.

See, its because the Cubs are still way way way better.  Its how small sample size baseball works.

/ care to swap rosters?   didn't think so.

No, I would prefer that they continue playing poorly for as long as possible

/ Brewers fan, not bitter at all about the things the Cardinals have done to them

Except for one shaky inning from Glasnow the Pirates had a great series in Chicago.  They had problems with the Reds, but for some reason they always have problems with the Reds.  Don't even want to talk about the Brewers.

It's way too early to tell if they can keep up a decent pace, but they're certainly in no immediate danger of collapse.

Might have something to do with the fact they went 2-4 during the week. But, do that let facts get in the way of your rage.

The Blue Jays going from back-to-back ALCS appearances to 27th in the power ranking by week 2 is kind of sad.

/Trying not to analyze until May long weekend.....

Are you 20 or more years old?

They had the best record in baseball for much of the 1997 season.

Worst start to make the playoffs is 2-12 for the 1951 Giants. The 2007 Phils started 3-10. 2007 Rockies were 10-16 after April. 2002 Angels were 6-14. 2005 Astros were 16-31. 2013 Dodgers were 30-42 at one point. 2003 Marlins started 19-29.

They're in rough shape, but they aren't DOOMED yet.

Obviously you can justify the Cubs' continued high ranking based on the small sample size of 2017 relative to the team's overall body of work and talent level. But they seem to be applying that principle unevenly, having dropped the Mariners from #12 to #22 and then -- after they swept the Rangers (and surpassed the Rangers in the standings) -- to #25 (while the aforementioned Rangers held steady at #19).

I figure that in 1997, most people under 13 or 14 or so hadn't typed anything yet, so he may be as old as early-30s.

The Tigers are 8-4 with a - 9 run differential. We don't lose a lot, but when we do, we go balls out.

I know the Brewers probably won't keep up their last week, but they are 5-1 on their current road trip, sweeping 2 in Toronto, and taking 3 of 4 from Cincinnati, which was on fire when they arrived (not, not in that way...). They should be higher than 20th, especially if these ranking are based off of the weekly performance.

And the Brewers just beat the Cubs, at Wrigley, 6-3.

6-1 on the road trip.

Let's see how badly the Braves are doing...

Yup, last place. (sigh)
