Well, you heard it here first.

US era of strategic patience with North Korea over

The alternatives being war or NK voluntarily giving up their weapons programs?

2017-04-17 06:51:01 AM
Tillerson swung by South Korea a few weeks ago and sort of snubbed the foreign minister and acting president, then claimed it was they who snubbed him.

http://www.politico.com/story/2017/03/rex-tillerson-south-korea-fatigue-reports-236214

So yeah, good job. Now we're sending our VP over because our Secretary of State can't hit a softball slow-pitched at him underhand, apparently.

Munden: The alternatives being war or NK voluntarily giving up their weapons programs?

Perhaps if they hadn't gutted the State Department until nothing was left, someone would be around to explain that you can't saber-rattle with someone that has nothing to lose. MAD is the only way the regime can ensure their survival at this point, and they're not going to give up their nuclear program because Donnie parked a carrier fleet next door.

This is just insanely irresponsible since it's needlessly increasing the risk that an accident or small incident will spiral into a war that nobody wants.

2017-04-17 07:05:35 AM
It's like QB Trump is trying to draw the NKs offside with a long count.  If they don't bite on it, he'll have to call a time out and then run a pass play.

2017-04-17 07:05:43 AM
Perhaps this would be a good time to restart the global nuclear disarmament efforts of Reagan & Gorbachev.

The was a missed opportunity, sigh.

I see us attacking NK at the same time or shortly after he drops the lawsuit that will result in millions losing their health insurance. And people will divert their attention and not realize what just happened.

We could simply wait quietly while Lil Kim builds up a stockpile of long range nuclear weapons and prattles off a list of increasingly unreasonable demands.

/if you don't threaten nations with missiles, they won't need to install missile defense systems.

Everyone has been joking for years that they KNOW everything about NK is a bunch of bullshiat posturing.

Evidently, our world leaders don't see it that way.

Is there a chance that we've been wrong about this?  Is there a chance that NK is more of a danger than we thought?

Because the actions of our government, the UN, SK, and China are all completely out of line with all the jokes over the years.

For years, 'lil Kim mouthed off periodically, and we basically ignored him.  Seemed to work well.  But now, the draft dodger-in-chief wants to start a major war?  Hope he's planning a big increase in the VA budget to take care of all the wounded, and not just budgeting for more MOABs.

Russia hasn't backed NK in any serious way since before the Kims came to power.

They're to blame for NK's existence in the first place (thanks Stalin), but they aren't to blame for NK's survival for the last 70 years. That's mostly on China.

Even China has been getting sick of their shiat over the past several years.  If the USA were to launch a strike to take out their nuclear facilities, China might condemn it, but in reality they wouldn't give the least bit of a fark.

This is what I'm getting at.

I may be basing this on shiat I read around here more than what the wild world thinks...  But I've been under the impression that every time Kim does some crazy thing about showing how powerful they are, it's to get the rest of the world to give them more stuff to shut them up.  No one ever takes it seriously, because it is not a serious threat.

But that seems to be changing now.  There seems to be a genuine concern that he may actually lob a missile at their neighbors.

well, that's kind of a twisting of what an armistice is, but sure.  an armistice is a formal agreement of warring parties to stop fighting, but not necessarily an end to the war. We don't go around saying WW1 never ended either but that ended in an armistice, hence Armistice day.

It's scary, but I think everyone completely underestimates the incompetence of the Kim regime.  If they were to try to nuke somebody there is even odds they will nuke themselves or they will just hit water.  Of course the scary part is that they get it right or they blunder into a hit.
