To be fair, snake and cake sound a lot alike so maybe someone was just covering all their bases to be safe.

So what happened to the snake? Did she let it eat cake or kill it with a rake?

It was actually a slow worm, which is technically a legless lizard, not a snake. Easily mistaken for one though.

I'm impressed that the writer actually caught that. Although it would have been nice if they had just mentioned it somewhere in the article. They are cute little dickens and how anyone could be terrified by a tiny little thing like that is beyond me.

If that had been a Daily Fail article I would currently be doubting the existence of snakes, cake, legs, and Wales.

Make your own, with white cake mix, cocoa powder, and red food coloring.  Add some buttermilk to the batter too.  Ice it with home-made cream cheese frosting.

The writer didn't "catch" anything, they were intentionally misleading for clickbait.

Could be a legless lizard. In fact, the shape of its head, designed for burrowing, strongly suggests it is.

Whoever wrote the headline opted for click-bait (and even then the word snake is in quotes), but article writers rarely write the headlines. Everywhere in the article it refers to a snake-like creature rather than calling it a snake.

If you are remotely familiar with reptiles a glance at the accompanying picture screams "legless lizard" (not literally, that would be silly).
