And the graffiti is more important than the potholes 'cause it embarrasses the city.  The potholes are "just apart of life" according to some.

Didn't some enterprising hooligan spray paint penii on the roads a couple of years ago to get the city to fill in the pot holes. If I recall that was successful

That was the last segment.  They did that while the news crew was out there.

In Portland OR I believe.  People there have started filling in the pot holes themselves.  It's a whole guerilla movement, and very funny.

Five days from now, the new tax on spray paint will be proposed at $1500/can.

That's why they sent the DPW out to remove the graffiti.

"What are taxes for"

Well missiles & bombs mostly. But if theres any left over we might spend some on infrastructure, education, healthcare, space exploration, law enforcement, but mostly missiles & bombs.

I recall that about 20 or 25 years ago, the same thing happened in Washington DC.  Someone spray-painted "Mayor Marion Barry Memorial Pothole" on all the potholes.

Barry was sort of a dick, so it's the same thing.

The picture is some rough pavement, not even a pot hole.  That road looks positively heavenly compared to some we have in the Ca. central valley.

This tid bit was awesome:
"Watched the kid who lives around here, he got a ticket because his front license plate fell off going through here, so they gave him a ticket for not having a front license plate,"

I don't buy for a moment that somebodies plate fell of due to that stretch of pavement.  It might have fallen off because the owner didn't tighten the screws enough or it might have rusted off or it might never have been there in the first place (where my money is) but that road didn't cause it.

2016 federal budget

And even within the defense section, "missiles and bombs" are a small part of the small part called "procurement."

But that has nothing to do with potholes, which is usually a state or county budgetary issue.

While not quite as cheap as spray paint, I'd recommend doing it next time with a bucket of road sealant. Make it easier to fix the pothole than the graffiti and they'll go the cheaper route.

Yes, but never mind, citizen, that 10 year tax abatement plan that was given to the business to lure them to your city.  Every pothole is someone else's tax break.

It has to be considered that Placerville (Hangtown during the gold rush "A hangin' every day") is an isolated town of about 10k on I50 in the foothills. Really nothing more than an annoying couple of stoplights, a place to pee, get a gas and a sandwich, Starbucks coffee and ice. No surprise they don't have much of a road budget.

Actually, there is a lot of historical value there and interesting things to see, but 99% of the traffic has no clue about it.

Had a hotline here in town to report potholes.

A year passed since the neighbor reported a pothole and zero attempts by the city to repair it. So, the neighbors had a huge block party with a giant cake and celebrated its first birthday.

It's the kind of silly local news that makes the papers and fill time on the local news.

The pothole was filled after the media exposure.

Embarrass the city is tried and true method of getting them off their ass

2017-04-16 10:41:23 AM
Yep... Just like the a pissant local government to send people out to cover up graffiti while still completely ignoring the potholes.

From what I saw in the segment, that's a lower-income part of town. What do you want to bet the wealthy part of town doesn't have a single farking pothole anywhere? What do you want to bet the Mayor and City Managers' roads are pristine and perfect?

I'm extremely liberal, but this IS one of those places where I think some private competition would be valuable. Whoever plugs the potholes first should be able to bill the city. That would light a fire under their asses.

I don't think that the city of Placerville or the State if California are buying many missiles or bombs.

We had a similar problem when I lived in rural Georgia.   Ten years of complainig but the county wouldn't do shiat.  That is, until my step brother totaled his car, and the cops put "unmaintained road/potholes" as the cause of the accident on the police report.  They were out the following Monday to repave the road.

Actually around here they're for the out of town and county bicycle douches. Are roads are crap but let's spend tens of millions on a tunnel for bicyclists that came from out of our county/tax base to whinge about it. Worse yet they won't use it as its relatively flat and wouldn't provide the challenge or downhill speeds of the hill it goes through.
