Merc by .5 in Q3. Unless there are major clownshoes in turn 1, this will be Yawnrain.

Outtaphase: Merc by .5 in Q3. Unless there are major clownshoes in turn 1, this will be Yawnrain.

Clownshoes are always possible. Hamilton hasn't done it yet this year, but he did blow a bunch of starts last season, and if Vettel gets him off the line it's still questionable whether or not the Mercs can run the Ferraris down. The real question for me, though, is whether or not Bottas can make the big breakthrough. A first pole followed by a first win would be pretty neat.

I'm more impressed with Renault right now, though. Both drivers made it through to Q3? That's pretty solid considering they were rolling chicanes last year. Weird that of all the teams out there the only one you can look at and say there is no way they could ever win a race is McLaren.

Won't have my full attention here today; the WEC Silverstone race is just about done Hour 4, and since I'm paying extra for that might as well concentrate there.  Decent race so far, just on their second full course yellow, and there's been plenty of action on the track.... but the absence of Audi is telling in the P1 class.

Eeeh, I'd put Sauber for sure and maybe Haas in that camp too.  I mean, realistically noone but McLaren or Ferrari are going to this year, unless Max snipes one again, but I do know what you mean.  Any other car save those 6 wouldn't be a shock on the podium this year.

I'm curious to see if Mercedes pulls orders here though.  Bottas is starting ahead of Vettel; might he go a bit slow on the start to try to bottle him up and let Lewis through?  Wouldn't put it past Papa Wolfe...

Not doing so might have Lewis complain that Bottas is not a good teammate

JM Lopez hurt in a crash at Silverstone, probably not serious but taken to care center for further checks.

Ouch, already on the 4th engine in the 3rd race.  Of course given the reliability issues it is not like penalties putting them in the rear will affect them much.

don't know why they bother asking hobbs and matchett their predictions, they're such homers for hamilton they pick him if he was in the worst car on the grid

Honda has a bigger problem than most realize I think.  At the Super GT race 3 of the 5 NSX's on the grid failed before the green flag fell.

It's not hitting Indy cause those are basically stock-block engines with minimal development done on them now, but to have such massive problems in their flagship programs...

My dad's DirecTV is flaking out, so I'm streaming on Comcast2go (or whatever the fark they call it) and Comcast is ~1min behind DTV.  Hopefully the DirecTV is working when the clownshoes happen so I can see them twice.

Hopefully Liberty and the FIA can get their shiat together and learn to schedule. There's no reason--there's no FARKING REASON to have your two premier series directly competing against each other.

First one of these this season that's live on a free to air channel in the uk, so I can play along.

Already got a car that won't make the start, Vandoorne's McLaren sitting in pieces in the garage.

I know you are pushing the envelope to develop the next generation of technology, but that has to be a lot of gremlins and upset teams using your product.  The teams are customers and all those failures has to have them furious.

I feel bad for McLaren's drivers, they should have such better cars.

It doesn't really matter if there's a conflict. Outside of LeMans, the odds of a F1 driver racing in a WEC race is small

I get the feeling that the two Toro Rosso drivers don't like each other much.

That was a wild start.

2017-04-16 11:09:13 AM
Another fun thing about the WEC race.  After 4 hours there are ZERO retirements.  And that's after one of the Toyota's disassembling itself in the tire wall and sending the driver to the care center.  But they put it back together and it's in 14th place.  Mind boggling the strength of these cars.

2017-04-16 11:09:27 AM
I want to see Vettel do another one of those aggressive passes.
how will Hamilton do in dirty air of third?

2017-04-16 11:09:42 AM
I can't see Bottas keeping Vettel behind him for long, seems to be backing then field up. And Verstappen could have Hamilton soon if the pace doesn't pick up.

Raikkonen stuck behind Massa.  You have to know that Felipe is grinning the biggest grin ever at this.

Kvyat doesn't even like being at Toro Rosso. I guarantee that demotion still sticks in his craw.

That was quite possibly the worst angle for a replay of the start they could've used.

And move Monaco back in the schedule so drivers can try participating in all three Triple Crown races in a year.

2 seconds that time.

Mercedes is in serious trouble if they don't get their front end sorted out.  Those cars don't deal with dirty air at all, and they can't rely on running away from Ferrari anymore.

But if they qualify in front they'll still be in good shape.
