We even had a major-party presidential candidate who had done it, it's that common.

It's a weird phenomena, these super wannabes who actually go out and impersonate a cop and pull people over on the highway.

When trying pass off your vehicle as a police interceptor, you might want to install fewer than 2 different types of civilian hubcaps on your wheels.

Pulling people over is not the goal, it's what happens next. Sexual assault, burglary, etc.

A state university president, too:

Doing it on campus to troll other students is a bit different than on the road, but still. I did all sorts of dumb shiat in university and high school. So glad there was no internet or facebook back then.

How sad is it that this last election cycle was so insane that that didn't even bump the needle on my weird-shiat-o-meter?

It's actually the most normal human thing that Romney has done.

Just like suspected serial killers and child rapists, most are never caught on their first foray into crime.  There are probably thousands of victims afraid to come forward, because the successful predators know how to pick the most vulnerable prey.  Unlike doofus here in today's example.

Yeah it happens a lot in FL. Lots of fake wannabes cops.

The gun shops also sell old police badges as collectibles. That's BS there too.

Or the cool thing now is to become a reserve cop or a town marshal. Fews hours here and there and some paperwork and they are a quasi legit LEO.

If it were up to me only fully marked vehicles would be allowed to make a stop, and you'd have to exit the road and stop somewhere safe. The the cops shouldn't be making stops on the side of the road for minor traffic issues. And then blaming idiots for smashing into the car they left hanging halfway out in a lane. The only time cops should be on the side of the road is to assist a breakdown, or an accident.

I don't understand why they don't just take the 3 month of training and become real cops.    It's not like the real ones are any smarter than this..

Is that actually the case? It strikes me that most of these folks are probably just delusional wannabees, perhaps with some sort of power trip going on.

If you want to rob somebody there are better ways to pick a safe target than a random stranger on the highway.

I'm sure it happens, I just assume the average fake cop is the type who has taken a fantasy too far more than a cunning thief.

I've had two lucky escapes from police impersonators.

One time, I was about 17, driving home from work at night, blue lights behind me, I pull over puzzled, since I was literally in sight of my house, and not speeding, etc. Man in black starts walking to car, when neighbor pulls in--I'm embarrassed to be seen caught pulled over directly in front of their house, but the "cop" hops back in car, speeds away. White sedan, with bubble on dashboard, but not cop car. I call to complain, detectives want to speak with me, since rapist in area impersonating cops. I really didn't see much besides white sedan and white guy in dark clothes, but they did wind up catching him.

Second time, was three or so years after that. Once again driving home from work, blue lights. This time it WAS an actual cop, sort of. Hired security/town police-ish contractor for some small unincorporated area, sorta close, but definitely not my area. He laughed nervously when I rolled down window, saying he thought I was his high school friend, and that he was trying to pull him over to scare him, and then scampered away. Weird enough that I remembered his face and the city on his cop car. Saw his picture on front page of paper a few months after that--for pulling over women, raping them, and then forcing them to take a shower at this one golf club he also did security at to clean away the evidence, before letting them go. I was pretty close to that golf course where I got pulled over.

Not sure how I got lucky that night--maybe I wasn't his type, maybe how tall I am, maybe another car drove by and spooked him, not sure. But I reallllly don't like getting pulled over by cops now.
