Aborts Takeoff

as in 'accelerating down the runway about to be in the air' aborting takeoff, or 'had left the gate and was taxiing 100 yards away' 'aborting takeoff'

yeah, i'll go with the second

Yeah, I'm sure no one who has ever flown has ever been inconvenienced by delays. Never FARKing happens. This pilot has utterly ruined the reputation of airlines worldwide for prompt, courteous, and on-schedule flying.

We here on FARK are ever so indebted to you for pointing out the undeniable fact that the other passengers were inconvenienced. We are particularly in awe over your adept and intuitive- nay, telepathic- understanding of the psyches of the other passengers onboard, despite the total lack of mention in TFA of their approval or lack thereof. Why, were it not for your truly dizzying intellect and obvious extrasensory ability to read minds across time and space through an internet connection, one might be tempted to think that you were speculating without evidence when you posted your truly impressive observation.

Thank you.

My mom and I went to California to visit my brother in Long Beach, CA, a few years ago. When we got to Salt Lake, we had about 20 minutes to catch our connecting flight because of a chronic fark-up at takeoff.

DIFFICULTY: The first flight leaves LWS at 5:00am. Our control tower doesn't open until 6:00am.

EXTRA DIFFICULTY: Connecting flight to LGB from SLC was on the other side of the damn airport.

The pilot of our connecting flight held the plane at the gate until Mom and I got there...almost 30 minutes late. At least you were able to get out of LWS, if only for a short time.

We've  had visiting family not realize the schedule for security at LWS.  They thought they had timed it perfectly to check in, walk through security, and walk onto the plane.  Little did they realize that security closes about 10-15 minutes before the flight (at least it did, it's been a few years since we've flown out of that airport).   They had a nice, relaxing drive up to GEG.

When you're in a large group of people, chances are that a few of them have really crappy things going on in their life that are beyond their control.  Many people suffer in silence, some of them claim to suffer in silence, but won't shut up about suffering in silence, and some will just announce their problems to the world.

It's not lack of soul or lack of decency that makes you consider that in any large group of people, there will be a few who have equally valid concerns.  How do you weigh a goodbye to a dying grandchild against the time of the passenger due for medical treatment, or the passenger in a custody battle who might now be late in picking up his kids, against the college kid who might miss a job interview that could impact her financial security for the next ten years?

It's decency that makes one consider that all of those other people have real life concerns because they're real people.

That's not what I'm saying.  That's an illogical statement.  I don't begrudge the person who got the attention.  I'm stating you shouldn't be so fast to condemn someone for considering the impact on every other passenger.

That's not what I'm saying.  That's an illogical statement.  I don't begrudge the person who got the attention.  I'm stating you shouldn't be so fast to condemn someone for considering the impact on every other passenger.

Really?  What do you take the earlier poster's statement as if not a begrudging that the plane was delayed for these passengers at the expense of others' time?  And you are defending the position.  I say it holds no moral weight.

Far Cough: Ker_Thwap: Far Cough: Ker_Thwap: Far Cough: SFSailor: Don't worry about all the other people on board. I'm sure they don't mind the delay.

Lack of soul typing detected.

Or maybe not.  And yet you seem to begrudge attention paid the one urgent and tragic need the crew DID know about.

You're right, let's not feed this homeless person because there are two more we can't see.

Then you should agree with me that the person I responded to was off base in condemning them morally.  I think we're done here.  Nothing wrong with begrudging the fact that a hundred or so real humans with real life concerns were potentially impacted.

I should agree with you for calling me "off base" when you've already reversed your position on begrudging the victims their attention and oh I give up.
