So the Bristol County DA is better at his job than the Suffolk County DA. This is good to know, as I'm a Bristol County resident.

\otherwise I'm meh, as long as he's already jailed for life

I wouldn't cry if another state found a,m reason to prick his vein on a gurney.

Why do I get this feeling that he won't actually spend his whole life in prison?  I don't know why, but I kind of feel like he's going to find an appellate judge to overturn his conviction and order a retrial.  I know in my brain that it's a long shot, but my gut tells me it's not so far fetched.

Well...good.  The prosecution's only evidence that Hernandez was the shooter was the testimony of Alexander Bradley, and Hernandez's defense was that Bradley was himself the shooter.  Bradley even admitted that he was testifying for revenge, since he couldn't kill Hernandez himself.

I mean, I personally think that Hernandez was probably the shooter, and that Bradley was probably driving around looking for the two victims on Hernandez's orders, but there's a world of difference between that and, "beyond a reasonable doubt."

Let's ask Rae Carruth about that. Oh, wait, unless you want to contact him in prison, he has no thoughts on the matter.

I'm surprised, sort of. I do feel like the testimony from Bradley being the only damning evidence seems a little suspect.

He cut a sweet immunity deal for this case, and he's already doing time for a separate shooting incident where nobody died.

If so, that's one amazing (or scumbag, your call) lawyer.

A blind poo-flinging monkey could've seen Casey Anthony was guilty.  How they managed to convince the jury to not convict befuddles me.

Head back out to Harvard Square and just ask every single girl if they want to go home with you. Eventually one of them will.

I wonder how many smokes an ex-NFLer goes for in prison.

HST's Dead Carcass: So he only has to spend one lifetime in jail?

This issue came up in the Dylann Roof thread the other day. The question was what good it does to have someone serve multiple life sentences. The answer is that it's insurance in case of appeal. Suppose something comes up that forces one conviction to be overturned (ineffective counsel, coerced confession, maybe the victim miraculously turns up alive); if that happens, the other sentences keep him from going free.

There would also be some comfort to the family of the victim knowing that someone has been convicted of and punished for that particular crime.
