TFA is unclear, but my guess is Louisiana is last. Good people, terrible drivers.

#1 in farmers market fatalities, too.  I bet.

I've driven in Florida.  I am from Colorado where we consider this place a shiatshow for driving because of all the people that moved here who can't drive in snow, and Florida was so much worse.  Half of it is the road design and layout, the other half is the drivers that shouldn't be operating a motor vehicle as of 10 years ago.
Driving in Florida was farking scary, make two wrong turns and you will also be reminded that you are in the deeeeeeeeeeep south.  Ended up on an unpaved road with a pothole/pond that couldn't be maneuvered around on a dirt road that was the size of grammas caddy within blocks of a Wal Mart.  Thanks Waze.

My car insurance dropped 30% when I moved to New Jersey from Florida. My SOs dropped 50%.

It's just a bunch of Qtips driving down there.

I imagine Louisiana folk can drive just fine when they're sober, but we'll probably never know for sure.

It's too easy to talk and drive.  The roads are straight for miles with just as much visibility.

Well the FL rate for smartphone distraction was 41% as compared to just under 37% for the best states so I am guessing that wasn't the biggest factor in their unsafe driving rating.  Gee, could it have anything to do with letting people drive well beyond their ability to do so competently.  My grandfather had 4 accidents in less than two years while just wintering in FL before they finally yanked his license.  That was about 35 -40 years ago.  I am betting the "old folks vote" situation hasn't improved since then.

Grew up driving in Fl. It's the Ultimate in stupid. All the stupid clumps together.

Toss in the tourists with the snowbirds and the jacked up trucks and ricers along with the white headed qtips doing 20 under and it's a party.

Alaska is the worst state I've driven in.

/Haven't been north of New York.
//would take i5 or the 405 over i95 south of west palm
///every Florida road sucks. Even the tolls.

FTA: "According to the study, a whopping 92 percent of all U.S. drivers have used a phone while behind the wheel."

I'm assuming the other 8% are old people who still refuse to learn that new-fangled cellular telephone technology.
Or lying.

What exactly is an SO? I've never heard of such a term.

/asking because I live in NJ now
//Florida. Good for looking back and being glad you don't live there anymore. The third slashie was too busy getting its face eaten by a hobo on bath salts

NVM. Your significant other. Should have been "My SO's". Lol.

/it's okay, I forgive for the transgression.
//this time. Third slashie got ran over by an 76 year old woman in a 1989 Buick LeSabre after its face got eaten off and a cop shot the hobo

Reminds me of my grandfather. After a fender bender, when he was in his 80s, he had his eyes checked. Result: legally blind.  Macular degeneration is a biatch.

Two things.

My soon to be 93 year old mom was just persuaded to give up her car and drivers licence. She has always been a very careful driver, but my sister noticed she was slipping and got her into a senior drivers evaluation program. That determined that she was a risk.. She still resents it, but has come to accept it. Fortuantely, my sister lives a block and a half from her and can take her wherever she needs to go.

Now, my son is down in Orlando for the Star Wars Celebration this week. He called me tonight with a question: Is the use of a turn signal a foreign concept in Florida? It has been driving him nuts that seemingly no one signals a turn or a lane change in Florida. IN Iowa, that will get you pulled over PDQ.

I just moved away from Florida and I can confirm the drivers there are horrible, and it's not just the old folks.

No one uses their turn signal.  If you do, cars will speed up to try and cut you off from changing lanes.  I've witnessed drivers making left hand turns from the right lane multiple times in one trip.  No one follows the slow lane-medium lane-fast lane progression on the highways. People regularly do 5-10 under in the left lane while cars goin 20+ over routinely pass in the right lane because the RV from the 80's is pulling a car and a boat in the fast lane.

Driver not sure which side of the road their stop is on?  Just slow down to 10-15 under the speed limit and drive over the lane dividing line so you can turn either way without any pesky cars getting past you.

I even witnessed a car try to drive down the wrong way of a one way street, honking at the cars driving legally and screaming for them to get out of his way.

In short:  Fark Florida drivers.

Let's not forget our Latin brothers and sisters who think stop signs are a suggestion.

Keep in mind the average Floridian's body contains more sperm cells than neurons and none of this is the least bit surprising.

My grandparents retired to Florida when I was about 10 years old.  Every year we visited them, and every year it was a miracle we survived.  All those old people are a damned menace on the road.
