Sorry to hear that.  Be sure to consider chapter 7 bankruptcy if you are in a recourse state.  Know your options, consult competent legal counsel.

They should've left the boy scout scene in, that would've added more time to the film.  Although it does make it just that much sadder.

I could be wrong, but since the house was set to auctioned that day, it was already repossessed; at least on paper.  The insurance company that will be settling will be the bank's insurance.  No matter how it's cut, the bank will be who collects the check.

So the guy cut off the gas supply lock so I don't see him having a problem with piping gas into the basement. Even if he filled the basement with gas, most of the time it would just burn and not explode unless there is just the right ratio of oxygen. Getting it to go boom in a way that was felt 4 miles away would require exactly the right ratios within a percent or two.

I would imagine he didn't care if it exploded, or burned up.  Either works for him.

Got lucky? Though what you posted is a comfort. Mrs LC tends to leave the gas stove running unlit (not sure how). Pretty sure its unintentional.

I live literally right around the corner from the house that exploded.

I was awake for the blast. Scared the Hell outta me and the cats, the whole house shook and the windows rattled. I'm just far enough away that I didn't see what was going on, but I saw nothing going wrong in front of or behind the house.

Found out what'd happened the next morning.

It's really sad, more than anything. Neighbors' houses and cars were damaged, the street was blocked off all weekend.

This is a neighborhood where people have been around a while and tend to know each other. The guy wasn't a recluse, he and the neighbors had known each other for years.

As soon as it came out the house was getting auctioned the next day, it was pretty clear what'd happened.

The dog and his neighbors deserved better.

One weird trick: Manage to not live in an "at will" state. Where I live, firing me because you don't like my shoes is justifiable. Not withoit consequence* for the employer, but justifiable by any means.
