FTA:The previous administration ignored this rising problem, shuttering a tiny State Department effort to counter Russian propaganda only months before the Kremlin lie machine went into overdrive against President Obama's own party. As I've pointed out, Obama and his White House bear part of the blame for the Russian havoc wrought last year on Hillary Clinton and the Democratic National Committee, thanks to their abject unwillingness to confront Vladimir Putin. By refusing to seriously confront Kremlin disinformation and deception, President Obama got more of both.

At some point the Dems have to learn to evolve and counter disinformation campaigns head on instead of just ignoring them as being beneath their notice.

From the Russians too, I suppose but until the Dems learn to deal with and counter the GOP's 24/7 disinformation campaign that's a moot point.

I'm not sure what I have a bigger problem with:

The Trump administration pushing Moscow's stories, or the fact the people in the Trump administration including the clown in charge are farking dumb enough to be led along like this.

There's just no twist here....no grand plan to reveal where they lured in the Russians and will now fark them.  Just a bunch of cretins being played and too stupid to even realize it.

So they chain of events was:

1. RT makes up claim about Obama wiretapping Trump
2. Fox News commentator repeats claim
3. Trump watches this and immediately tweets about it

That's nuts. I seriously hope someone hacks Trump's cable TV and replaces Fox News with a movie about an alien invasion for the lulz.

I've looked at those covers at the checkout line too.

They provide a nice glimpse of what North Korea style propaganda would look like here in the US.

I always laugh and shake my head when I look at those.

I'm pretty sure the fastest way to jumpstart Trump's humanity would be to dose him with LSD and make him watch Samsara. It could very well cause the extremely rare occurrence of simultaneous heart attack and stroke but I think that's a risk the world is willing to take.

Are they actually being played, though? Even if the administration parrots everything they see from Russian sources, like 30% of Americans are going to treat it like gospel. I think they'd do a hell of a lot worse (and possibly wouldn't even be around) if they ever pushed back on the bullsh*t they receive and then automatically peddle.

The biggest problem is that the Founders never considered that the gov't could be overtaken by enemies of the state, and now we're left flailing with "bork bork checks and balances will save us bork!".

It's either ride this shiat out or do something unConstitutional, and it's looking like we can't afford to ride this shiat out.

The Republicans are right that journalism is essentially dead in this country, albeit for the wrong reasons. They're just (acting?) mad because the so-called journalists are critiquing the tweets, but my complaint is that they're taking the path of least resistance by reporting on diversions rather than doing their actual jobs by telling us what's really going on and what type of sh*t the tweets are running interference on.

The German media questioning Trump at his event with Merkel the other day drove home just how terrible at their jobs even the most Trump-hostile press in the US is.

"Mr. President, why do you repeatedly say things that you know not to be true?"
*Assembled American press corps gasps in shock*

The press here doesn't dare ask politicians anything that would offend them and lose them their access, and they let them answer the question once and skate, instead of following up the inevitable pivot with "but you didn't answer my question".  "You still didn't answer." "Did you understand my question?"
God I'd kill for real, competent reporters in this country.

At my local grocery store, someone went through all the checkout lines and turned over the National Enquirers to the back cover.  Which was a full page ad for an Obama commemorative stein.

After today's hearing, I am more convinced than ever that Trump actually was being surveilled. It was striking to me how Comey went out of his way to answer Trump's tweet specifically  - whether Obama himself ordered wiretaps - which of course didn't happen and wasn't what was being alleged.  Answering the question that way allowed him to completely sidestep the more pertinent question of whether the FBI surveiled Trump under a FISA court order (that Obama did not personally request).  That was in combination with watching Former Obama WH aides dance around the question in a similar fashion on Good Morning America.  He kept saying over and over that Trump's specific claim was false and wouldn't address the broader allegation.

I am guessing it is true, but no one in Washington outside of Trump wants this to see the light of day as none of them want the public and the media crawling up their asshole with a flashlight again  over some spying fiasco like PRISM was.  That is why they are going to try and kill all of it - the Russian probe and the Trump eavesdropping, as quickly and as quietly as possible.  In a month or two, there will be a report issued saying they didn't find anything and that will be the end of it.

To be honest, I could believe that there were conversations with Trump in Trump Tower that were surveilled. The catch is... they weren't tapped from the Trump end. That's the real reason Trump refuses to actually give evidence that he was tapped - the evidence would reveal who he was talking to.

Ding Ding. We have a winner right here. This is exactly what is going on. All the conversations were being tapped because the actual tap was on the Russian target, not the Trump campaign.
