Trump is totally selling out the US to further his own ends.

And as long as he still has the rubes eating out of his hand he don't give a fark.

I remember not too long ago when Cheney liked to brag about the "Unipolar Moment" when the US became the globe's sole surviving super power.

With Trump in charge that title is pretty much up for grabs but China does seem like the inevitable inheritor at this point.

Superpower Suicide.  That's a fantastic word(s) to describe it.

As long as the world runs on dollars, the US reigns supreme.  Everything from Arabica beans to zinc is priced in US dollars.  Much like English being the world's language, the dollar is what the world economy flows on.

I don't see China supplanting that reality any time soon, especially as dependent as their economy is on high growth rates.

A lot of that has to do with the Petro Dollar.

The Dollars time as de facto global secondary currency is not at risk as long as China remains corrupt and the Yuan undervalued but it is not forever.

So far there has been so much losing in this administration that I'm getting tired of losing.

I've started watching small segments of Fox News though, and seriously, you wouldn't know that anything is wrong.  Fox has literally created a separate reality for Trump voters in which decisions have no consequences.

Its truly terrifying.

It was the whole point of electing Trump too, wasn't it? Drain the swamp and all that, meanwhile puppet master Bannon is on the record as wanting to tear it all down to the ground. Throw in deregulation,  outsourcing, privatization... Kiss the concept of a Nation State goodbye if the get their way for more than a few short years.

....an alternate reality that really hit high-gear in September 2016. But I'm sure that's just a coincidence.

Meh. Republican policy over the past 40 years is how you hand over superpower leadership. Cut taxes, cut education funding, cut research funding. Trump wouldn't have gotten elected if the voters were educated and informed. He's just another symptom of the problem.

I think you are misinterpreting the fact that the dollar is a convenient frame of reference to mean that US dollars are the actual currency used to buy and sell these items.

For instance, when Spain buys crude it pays in Euros, not dollars.  If the U.S. dollar goes down against the Euro, then crude is cheaper for them to buy.

Which is what the far right in this country want. Being a first world country was all well and good until it started to come with things like a social safety net, gay rights, family planning, ect.. Now they want to tear it all down and start over. That's why I feel the sudden urge to face punch when I hear that "it's got to get worse before it gets better" defense of Trump.

I don't even know if 'starting over' is in their cards. At least in America. They seem intent on pillaging everything they can, as fast as they can, and they figure they'll be dead or able to leave the country before the shiat really hits the fan.

No, they just think if we do nothing but throw guns and missiles around the rest will take care of itself, and they couldn't be more wrong. They won't get what they want.

I suspect even the Koch's and the Adelsons of the world don't want the US to lose superpower status. Not that they hold any allegiance to the country, but for them, their families, and descendants it provides a stable and reliable base of power and safety to protect their interests.  They want to rape the country, but not into the ground. They are smart enough to see what happens to billionaires in Russia, Africa, etc. They've seen what rules the rest of the first world sets for the CEO and Vulture Capital class too, and it doesn't involve quite so much profit.

When you've got billions, you'd give up a few not to be at the potential whimsy of tyrants, dictators, and cartels.  Or if you have any brains you would.

Don't get me wrong, they'll suck every dollar up that Trump lets them, because just like me they look out for number one (I'm at the point where if american votes for brownshirts in 2018 and 2020 I'm willing to be the best brownshirt (hyperbole) I can be, and fark the 90 million non-voters - I won't quit my job to protect people who won't spend 10 hours a year voting and educating themselves on candidates), but I suspect they hope things swing back to an Obama next time around to keep the golden goose alive.

Not to mention the previous, and alleged continuing, currency manipulation. That would not help the yuan as a global standard.

Are you lovin' it yet, Trumpanzees? Are you thinking "gee, this Trump feller's got it going on?" Are you excited to watch as Trump laughs in your goddamned faces while he sells you out to Russia and China, because the corporate assholes that run Russia, and China, and now the U.S. plan to divvy up the world like a goddamned factory pool? Are you thrilled to discover that, far from being a footsoldier for the winning side, you're just the dupes?

Is there any reason why we shouldn't feel contempt for you, Trumpanzees? You cheerfully fell for this con man, because he looked like he hated all the things you hated, and feared all the things you feared, when in fact he just said those things to convince you marks to cough up the one goddamned thing you have that matters in a democratic society - your vote. They've spent millions upon millions to figure out what pushes your buttons - why do you think that corporations collect all that data you so stupidly, so willingly give them - and when they saw an opening that they manufactured after years of blowing your money to discredit the Democratic candidate, they went for it. And you cheered them on, you farking fools. You cheered them on.

You're still cheering them on, even as you're about to lose your healthcare, your pensions, your work security, even your right to complain - what do you think unions did, assmunches - as you're exploited to keep their rich masters happy.
