Only Tillerson could go to China.

So after all the tough talk about a possible naval blockade and Trump's tantrumy tweets about "Jina" Rex was a good little dog for his Chinese hosts?

Good boy, Rex.

Have a snausage.

Christ, the Chinese are just gonna eat these guys alive.

One of several. As an added bonus, China gets to tapp the whole building.

If only Tillerson had press traveling with him he could present another side of the story.

If only.

Holy carp.

That family is selling out America's interests to personally enrich themselves faster than Grandpa Trump used to sell out of fresh hookers on a Saturday night in the Yukon.

Jokes on them, Tillerson has always been a biatch.

Hard to control the message when you exclude the US press.

In theory, this should piss Trump off to no end.  He doesn't believe in win-win scenarios, so if China is bragging about how bigly they won with Tillerson, that means the U.S. lost by default.

In practice, as long as he gains personally, Trump couldn't give a tinker's damn about the rest of the U.S.

Did he bow to their leaders? Apology tour '17?!

Man that is pretty farking hilarious.  I mean the good news is we wont be going to war, obviously.  The bad news is our poor allies in that region are about to become Chinese nationals, or else.  Sea of China, sold cheap.

Sorry Japan, guess you should have given the Trump family more business.

2017-03-20 02:30:30 PM
Well good thing he brought a bunch of reporters along so we know that's not true. Oh. Right. That's a feature not a bug.

Ever since Trump took office Fark has been having conniptions that Trump was going to start a war with the Chinese. Now that that doesn't appear to be the case, suddenly we're China's biatch. Consistency sure isn't the strong suit here.

I'll bet the Chinese were pretty hesitant for a time, though.

"What are these wide-eyed American capitalists trying to pull over on us? They think we're just going to walk into their trap?"

**Rex talks for a few more minutes**

"Holy crap. I...I think these guys might just be morons. Quick, grab what you can before they send some adults into the room."

This does seem like SOP for the Chinese. Of course they'll spin any meeting in their favor regardless of what actually happened. Unfortunately it's amateur hour in Washington and there's no real narrative coming from the US side like there would be under a competent administration.

Tillerson told China what they wanted to hear. Now, when Trump goes manic bipolar and says/does something completely opposite, it could get interesting.

Yes, tee hee hee, stupid libs.  It's not like any reasonable person could have been concerned that Trump was going to start a war with China.

When questioned on the Trump administration's stance on the South China Sea during his confirmation hearing, Secretary of State nominee Rex Tillerson said that, "We're going to have to send China a signal that... your access to those islands also is not going to be allowed." The only way to block China's access to the islands it occupies in the South China Sea would be to enact a naval blockade, which is an act of war.

He openly talked about a trade war, and I think the fear was he'd set Asia ablaze via bumbling incompetence. He still has his chance with the posturing against NK.

On 1 hand.. Yes, Trump is selling out the U. S. ( no conflict of interest here) to enrich his family .. On the other hand... we do not need this very short term P O S poking the dragon and starting something that Pence or Ryan are not capable of handling.. China/ Best Korea  may look at U S / Russia as a real threat..

Be afraid. Be very afraid.

The U.S., Russia, and China are carving up the world, and the EU wasn't invited to the dinner - but the UK's hoping for scraps.

China is a delicate beastie.  We have to be polite but firm.  Resolute but respectful.  The Trump administration is ranging from insulting to sabre rattling to now rolling over.  It takes the highest caliber of diplomacy to successfully navigate Asian geopolitics.

Trump and Tillerson are nowhere near the highest caliber, and it shows.
