The 3025 Awesome had enough heat sinks to reliably fire its three particle cannons - you'd have to skip one every third turn or so. Once you get Clan tech or LosTech in there, double heat sinks make particle cannons very useful.

Meh.  I always loved the Grasshopper.  It had enough heat sinks to fire all its weapons (lasers only) every
round and jump jets, which made it into a 70 tonne recon mech.

For the stupid-big recon 'mechs, I love the Charger. Weapons and armor were laughable but the idea of an 80 ton 'mech smashing into you at the full 80 kph it can get up to was always awesome. When they added XL engines to the mix, it turned into a respectable weapons platform.

Truth. The Awesome AWS-9Q also made excellent use of double heat sinks to pack in a FOURTH particle cannon on an otherwise-normal Awesome chassis.

I ran an Atlas with dual Gauss rifles and 16 machine guns.

That's not a typo, it was incredibly effective for both sniping and getting up close and personal.  Chewed through ammo though.

In the first part of the video the chains were never really used, though it seems when Jeff was in there they were. In both cases purely about liability. The software/hardware isn't 100% finished and they aren't willing to risk having a 5 ton machine crashing over until they are sure it won't crash over. (Which technically with 2 legs is nearly impossible to guarantee)

I had a special Nova build, just for ice planets.
All lasers, no sinks.

// stand in icy river
// alpha strike with nearly two dozen lasers
// computer warns of reactor shutdown
// override shutdown
// waste heat has already been washed away

// I wish there was a Battletech center somewhere near me :(
// now that I'm a 40yo adult (vs a 22 yo adult) I have a lot more discretionary income that I could use to buy pod time.

I played MW a good bit, don't remember the last one I had.

I downloaded Hawken just this weekend for my XBone, but it's pretty meh. Can't even shoot off people's legs and I'm pretty sure I'm just fighting bots.

What should I buy to scratch this itch? I have a newish laptop, but it's not a gaming rig.

Played a few of the older MW games (1, 2, and 3, along with the old Crescent Hawks games).  In general, I was a table top player.  Haven't played in about 15 years.  Owned most of the books up through the 3058 tech manual.  I imagine they're either in a box or long gone by now.

The experience in MWO has improved dramatically in the last couple years. I got back in recently and I'm actually enjoying it. It's never going to be the game we were promised, but it isn't the miserable hellscape it was in 2014 either.

i agree with the better ( legendary founder haven't stopped playing through the good and bad) it has its issues, but for what it is, i still enjoy it

So many fond memories of that game ...A buddy and I used to co-op the operation of a single mech with one of us on keyboard and one on mouse... that was fun as hell. Used to do that with that game and X-Wing.

Also, I loved how broken Elementals were in that game. You could get no armor, two medium lasers and jets, then kick the shiat out of an Atlas. You were so damn fast you could literally run rings around them and nothing could hit you. However, if you did get hit, you were instantly dead, so fun.

For Mechwarrior, you might want to wait a little further than that. The same guys who are making MW5 are also the turds who currently run MW:Online, and they've proven to be more than a little incompetent.

For a turn-based Battletech game, look here. Should be released in a couple of months.

I went with pulse lasers and Ultra ACs on an Annihilator with a maxed out engine.   Only got about 60kph but that was essentially Usain Bolt for an assault mechanical.  Caught a lot of people napping with it.

I dabbled a bit with MWO when it was in real early beta and they were just starting to ramp up the microtransactions with the 'mechs, so I've been out of it for some time now.  How have they proven to be incompetent?

Probably because they are newer versions of the Tesla pods Virtual World ran.

// I think Hazard Center was on Tesla 2.0 pods when I piloted there.
